Re: best bull shizzle someone told you and was serious
I was at an event for work, and started talking with a guy. He had heard from a mutual friend that I liked rifles, so he started talking to me, and asked what I shot. I told him that I shot a custom Remington 700, and it was chambered in .300 WSM. He went on a rant how he didn't understand why people even liked the Remington 700, and that his Weatherby was better. He said he customized Mauser 98's himself, and I won't even bother trying to describe the bastardized ways he was talking about attempting to modifying them. Obviously he hadn't done it and shot one because some of the modifications definitely could have killed someone.
So he finally gets around to going back to the .300 WSM, and asks why I didn't choose the .308. I was telling him about liking to stretch things out a bit further, and being able to push the heavier pills, or the 185-190 grain pills faster was what I wanted. So he starts asking me, "Do you shoot those 158 grain match grade bullets?" I was kind of confused at first and said, "Do you mean 168 grain SMK's, or something from Nosler?" He said, "No, those 158 grain bullets. That's what I shoot, and they always group real tight." So I told him that I didn't even know anybody made 158 grain bullets, I've just heard of some good manufacturers making 155 grain bullets, and 168 grain bullets around those weights; and that I'd like to know who made them so I could try them out. I then told him that I liked to shoot the 190 grain Berger VLD's and 185 grain Hybrids. So he asked me if they were FMJ's. I told him they were match grade hollow points. He said something to the effect of, "Well it's too bad that they're hollow points. If they weren't, they'd be so much more aerodynamic and have a better BC." I told him that they had a better BC than most FMJ bullets, and if I was that concerned about it, I'd just get a tool to point the meplats. This seemed to loose him a bit, and I didn't want the fun to end, so I said, "But I can't shoot well enough to notice the slight difference in meplat on those bullets anyway."
So the discussion went towards pushing heavier bullets further, and staying into the supersonic range. He was getting lost, so he decided he'd change the subject and get more on his level. I guess he thought there was an opening from my comment on not being able to shoot well enough to notice the difference in meplat. So then he says, "When I as in the Army (here it comes, lol), I could shoot groups that you could cover with your hand at a mile." I acted truly surprised and said, "Really? That's amazing man. What ammunition and rifle were you using?" He didn't miss a beat, slapped me on the shoulder and said, "I was shooting the M21 sniper rifle that had a 36" barrel on it, and those 158 grain bullets I told you about." I replied with, "That must be a world record for a light weight rifle, and especially in that caliber." He said, "Yeah, it probably was, but I was on a mission that was real hush hush, so we couldn't report it or anything."
Finally, it was getting to be too much. I was about to out the guy in front of all kinds of industry people, and customers. I figured it wasn't the best idea to look like a real asshole in front of all these clients or potential clients. So I found a way to get out there. I finished by saying that sometime we should get together so he can show me how to shoot. LOL, I'm sure it'll never happen.
