I was in my local gun shop the other day, & I tried out an eotech (never dealt with them much)...this one had a 3x magnifier with it-I know they have been out for awhile, but this is the first one I handled-and I was impressed! Anybody out there have any expeirences with this combo?...Also-what is the best eotech-I know..."what's it going to be used for?"...up to 300 meter (MAYBE farther) AR style rifle-it has to have a LONG battery life...

Re: best eotech?

If battery life is what you seek...then buy aimpoint. As far as eotech goes, They are all the same quality, just buy the one which you prefer (reticle, size, battery, NV compatible).

Re: best eotech?

If you want to switch it on and forget about it, then go Aimpoint. Most EOTechs I know of have auto off features built into them too. Aimpoints are a simple dial switch that stays on. Long battery life = Aimpoint (80,000 hrs), not EOTech (1100 hrs). If you believe 1100 hours is long enough, then rock on.

They each have their own purpose. What is your intended application?

I don't think battery life should be a deciding factor when looking for an optic, EOtechs 1100 hours should be enough for anyone. The eotech with the magnifier is a great set-up, it might take up a little more rail than an aimpoint, but it is mostly personal preference to which you like better.

Thats the first I have heard about them, interesting

"Up to 300m" is not an application when your screen name is "mhptrooper" and you're saying it "has to have a LONG battery life".

Is this for a LE role? Are you using this as your primary HD weapon? 3-Gun matches on the weekends? It makes a difference and this isn't a reticle scope where you're only inconvenienced by a battery running out, you're SOL.

I use an Aimpoint Comp ML3 on my work rifle. I changed my battery last August, and just changed it again today as it was getting washed out in the bright sunlight on the highest setting. On the spec sheet it says 40,000hrs on setting 7. Mine stays on 8 at all times resting, and rides on 9 for work and sometimes 10 (max) on really bright days. Eight months of battery use is pretty good, especially when playing with procurement delays, so my sight will get a new battery for Christmas.

I've used EOTechs in the past, and the buttons in the dark with gloves on or using the radio while assessing and responding just aren't practical for my purposes. Would I use one for the weekend shoots? Of course as they're an excellent sight. Just not what I like to have in the environment I'm in.

Like I said, it's all about application.

You are 100% correct, I guess I should have said anyone using it for civilian purposes, with which 1100 hours would give you plenty of battery life when you consider it would last months. But for your application I can definitely agree that the longer the battery life the better, I can only imagine getting batteries over there must be a bitch.

Re: best eotech?

This weapon & sight combo will be used for my SHTF rifle, my patrol carbine is state issued...no need to take the chance of messing up my personal stuff in a wreck...I'm not too familiar with the Aimpoint-do they have the magnifiers as well; and what kind of batteries do they take?

Re: best eotech?

My Katrina rifle has the Eotech with 3X and I am very happy with it--Aimpoint and 3X is another viable option--I have swapped magnifiers around with no problems---use BUIS in all cases so no worries

Re: best eotech?

The battery on my 512 lasted exactly one year (used 1-3 times a month). I bought it last year with tax returns and it just died last month.

The quality, ease of use, and vision with the eotech is great, but like everyone else says, get an Aimpoint if it is battery life you seek. In any case, I keep extra batteries in my grip if it does die on me.

Re: best eotech?

If I were going to war tomorrow I'd have an aimpoint on my rifle for pure battery life. That said my range rifle has the xsp-2 OP-Mod Eotech. I tried both and found that I was faster with the Eotech. If my battery goes dead I just to Wally Word and get another.

Re: best eotech?

You fellas have me about 90% sold on the aimpoint, but I don't have one at the local dealer I can actually put my hands on...What does their reticle pattern look like (a simple dot, I'm guessing?) and also-I really liked the flip side mount for the eotech magnifier--would it be compatible with the aimpoint?

Simple dot, available in either 2MOA or 4MOA depending on model. Larue tactical makes a nice FTS mount that you can use with either an aimpoint or eotech brand 3x.

I started with an EO 552 for my patrol rifle. I liked the eotech, but the first time I went on a call and the reticle didn't turn on made me furious. I pushed the up arrow and NOTHING. Come to find out I had the NV button on and did not realize it. For my purposes I grab my gun and go, the less buttons and shit I have to push - the better. I then switched to an aimpoint T1 in larue mount, no buttons to push, my aimpoint is on 24/7 when I need it, it's ready to go. I think the battery is rated for something rediculous like 5 years contant on.

I'll pm you with some info also, stay safe.

Re: best eotech?

Eotech all the way. I suggest you go with one of the EXPS series of optic. I run an Eotech 552 with Magnifier on my personal gun but run with with a 553 for the work gun. I've shot out to 500 with no issues. Took the Magnifier overseas in the box, banged it up real good had some slight issues. Sent it in to L-3 and they gave me a brand new one to replace the banged up one. +1 on the customer service from L-3.

Re: best eotech?

when choosing between Eotach of Aimpoint, seems like the biggest concerns I am reading are about 'Battery life' for a reflex choice ?

Why Not then just go ' Trijicon battery free ' for a Reflex ?
.

Re: best eotech?

Anybody had any expeirences with IOR Valdada optics? I saw them on a website I was looking at for the aimpoint...if so, do they HAVE to have a battery to work or is the illuminated reticle an optional feature?
