Best hearing protection?

Hello guys, I have a Barrett M99 chambered in 50 BMG. I have been using 3m ear plugs with muffs but I find that with how low my scope sits it is impossible to get a prpoer check weld. My optic is a Burris Fullfield 2, 4.5-14x42 with Burris high XTR rings. I have thought about higher rings but I plane on a better scope one day. I may also add a do a ggod bit of indoor shooting. I am open to suggestions, Thank you

If you live in one of the 42 states that permit civilian ownership of suppressors, buy one. Otherwise, or while you wait to actually receive it, keep doing what you're doing now -- plugs with muffs -- and look for lower-profile muffs that fit your face and stock better.

Keep in mind that with plugs in, the penalty for lower-NRR muffs is reduced, so don't be afraid to try muffs that are narrower or are shaped differently so as to fit your face and stock better, even if they don't offer quite as much protection as the thicker muffs that are giving you problems. In combination with plugs, lower-NRR muffs that stay on your ears will give you better protection than high-NRR muffs that get pushed off your head by the stock.

Foam plugs and earmuffs if you don’t have a can. I use MSA Sordin electronic muffs with the silicone ear pads that make a huge different in how it conforms to your head.

Suppressor for sure, but also hit up one of your local audiologists for some custom foam plugs.

I use some custom fit ear plugs and muffs these days. My hearing is really bad and I'm trying to save what I have left.

Thanks for the input guys, I will try these suggestions. I am guessing without looking that a suppressor for my Barrett would be a good deal of money. I am realizing everything for the 50 is expensive after paying $150 for a Barrett Monopod that is not much more than a threaded rod with a base. I will look into that as well.

+1 for the custom fit ear plugs and MSA muffs, but a suppressor is best while still wearing ear plugs
