Best load for 30-06

Re: Best load for 30-06

You might try to post this in proper section and you would most likely get more replies.

If your not reloading then you might try some Federal Gold Medal Match. What are you wanting to do with this ammo? Hunt? Targets? Steel? What distance?

It all depends on what YOUR gun likes to shoot and since you are not reloading its just a matter of tryin differnt types.

Out of my M70 Featherweight-like Hunter/Lightweight Tac, Fed Gold Medal Match 168gr rocks. Oddly enough, the relatively inexpensive Remington 150gr, 165gr, and 180gr Core-Lokt Express loads are also damned accurate and at very least they are adequately effective (on deer) from this gun and a lightweight Ruger 77, too.

Re: Best load for 30-06

TO OP,
you have to take into consideration the industry recommendation is for a rifle and ammo to print 3.5" at 100 yards (which on this forum is poor).
Secondly don't expect your rifle to shoot that well because they don't have a guarantee on accuracy.

For instance a couple years ago I got a rifle that shot the first five rounds 2" wide and 12" high. I called the factory and they replaced it. I seriously doubt they would replace a rifle that shot under six inches as there is alot of commercial ammo that won't shoot six inches.
A guy came down with a Romanian AK and military ammo and best it would do at 100 was about 11 inches.

I am like the others, Federal Gold will be about the most accurate over the counter you will find if you are not where you can get set up to reload.

no offense to anyone that likes them, but ak's blow ass anyway, next thing winchester 180's were okay and core-lok 180's were marginally better they gave me an inch and a half group (rnds 7, 8, 9 out of my rifle) thank you to all who have answered

next few days when i can get out and shoot again i am gonna try 168 federals
