I finally ordered my Bergara B14 HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor. I don't want to order extra mags to find I get a brand that doesn't work well in the rifle. I am just getting into the bolt action platform. Can the collective steer me right?

Also, with everything so hard to find now, double bonus points if you have a link to sources that have recommended mags actually in stock.

I have 10 round Magpul and 10 round MDT mags for both my HMR and HMR Pro.

Both feed perfectly, however the MDT is picky on OAL. 140 ELD Match factory is too long. Sig 140 BTHP runs Most of my handloads work, but the Berger VLD's do not. I'm buying additional Magpul in the future. They run 140 VLD bullets out to 2.879 COAL

MDT has 2 options for the metal AICS magazines, with and without binder plate.

When I was looking at getting a Savage 110 elite precision in 6.5 CM I actually called Savage and inquired as to which I needed to choose, they informed me that the binder plate version was required, due to where the ramp is located and how it interfaces with the magazine.

I just picked up the HMR Pro and I will be looking in to if I can use the non-binder plate version as you can use a longer cartridge

From the MDT website:
"The magazines with front binder plates are compatible with all rifles equipped with AICS-pattern bottom metal or chassis systems. The binder plate holds the cartridges back from the front of the magazines and guides them past the bottom of the feed ramp. The maximum cartridge overall length (COAL) that will fit in this magazine is 2.870”.

The magazines without front binder plates allow a maximum cartridge overall length of 2.960”. These are compatible with all AICS-pattern bottom metal and chassis systems, but most common actions such as Remington 700 and Savage 10/11 will require modifications to the receiver (i.e. notching out the bottom of the feed ramp) to prevent the bullet tips from catching on the bottom of the feed ramp (see photo below)
."

Get the Bergara AICS PMAGS, they are actually from Magpul made for Bergara with the Bergara logo on them. Work great, and cheaper than buying the Magpul PMAGS without the logo. If they aren't in stock the Magpul AICS PMAGS work the same, also the MDT hybrids work great in mine, only have had trouble with an Accurate all metal AICS Mag with the binder plate, had to do some creative feed lip bending with a Gerber to have it see the error of its ways. Don't know what the Bergara AICS PMAGS go for now but when I bought them they were around $30 for the 5 rnd, and $35 for the 10 rnd on their web site.

Is there anything noobs won't overthink?

It's magazines. Just buy some. Whatever the brand as long as they're AICS compatible. Sooner or later you will run into one that won't work right out of the gate or will die early.

They're consumables. It is what it is.
