Best multi-piece cleaning rod?

Looking for a segmented cleaning rod, 17-20 cal, 40" overall length or more, 5x40 female threads on the business end. Any suggestions?

Background: I run a Montana X-Treme one-piece 42" in a similar configuration, but I'm traveling for a match and need something way more portable. I've had issues with a tight fit on 22-cal rods in my Vudoo, so I prefer the "guaranteed fit" of a 17 or 20 cal rod. Thanks!

Good point, truly don't know why I hadn't thought of that. Part of my concern is wanting to have access to it in case I need it during the comp, but it seems likely I could hustle back to the truck.

No but am afraid of a slightly out of round segment banging into the crown during the pulling back of the rod . No such worry with a one piece. I don't know of any top shooters using a segmented rod in a precision rifle

honestly I think I'd take my chances with the hardened brass rod against the soft steel in a pinch.
I say that but mines carbonfiber one piece, mainly because that's what I could find to work with a 30" barrel lol.

I believe pro shot has a nice one, but I have no experience with it. Pro shot makes nice stuff, however.

IMO, you want a one piece polished stainless rod. Dewey rods are okay, Pro-shot are better, and Ivy rods are best. For best care, get a bore guide too.

I do not own a segmented cleaning rod.
I have a couple of .17 cal one piece, I prefer the coated stainless ones... and one piece, always.
The length was never an issue, just throw it in the truck.
But it's your desire, so keep looking, something is bound to fit your needs.

Ivy rods are best.

I believe the Ivy guy got sick or forgetful or something a few years ago and is no longer making them. People couldn’t get ahold of him (including me).

I heard they were really nice rods, though.

I keep a 3-piece in my range bag for stuck casings, and have on that's assembled for home use. I've filed and polished the joints so no 'out-of-round bits' to catch on crown. Mine measures ca 0.195" and so fits both my 22LR CZs with No probs. Btw the pro shot multi piece rods apparently don’t come as a separate thing…seems like you have to buy it in a bundle of other stuff.

However, they do sell individual rod lengths…but I haven’t found just the handle…

Btw the pro shot multi piece rods apparently don’t come as a separate thing…seems like you have to buy it in a bundle of other stuff.

However, they do sell individual rod lengths…but I haven’t found just the handle…

I put together my own kit but it included the military cleaning rod. I thought of using Pro Shot components, but the rod assembly (handle and 5 sections) costs almost as much as a complete kit.

Man, they don’t make this particular purchase easy! If I ever buy this setup, I think I’m just calling to see if there are yet more undiscovered options.

They’re pretty helpful over the phone.
