I've been searching for a thread on high end tactical scopes. I can't seem to come up with it but I'm sure there has to be one!!!

I am looking for pro and cons of the top line scopes on the market today. High power (5-25 or similar) Reviews, opinions, likes, dislikes, glass quality, everything.

I just want to continue reading before I decide which scope to buy.

I thought I wanted a 5-25 premier with gen II xr but I read a couple threads that very well may have changed my mind.
I'm not sure!

I hate to be the one to say this, but every other day there's a new "which scope should I get?" thread. So, without saying anything more, search the forums here and check out opticthoughts.com

Ive used or owned all the big names USO, NF, S&B, Henny, and Premier, and I have to say there is a certian level where you can pretty much close your eyes and pick and your gonna end up with something you will love. Read more, try and find someone who has them and take a look through all you can. The which one is better threads are stupid you have pick something that works for you not what someone tells you is the best.

I`m going with the Vortex Razor with the EBR-2B reticle. Great Price, Lifetime Warranty, Great cutomer service, FFP Reticle, 36 mils of adjustment just in turrets not including the reticle, plus I like the (Horus made right) reticle. What more could you want. The reviews are great.

There are 2 scopes that are better than the rest, those 2 being S&B and Hensoldt. S&B has a 5-25 scope and Hebsoldt doesn't, so it would be an easy choice for me.

Glass quality is highly subjective as most will agree.

IMO what it really comes down to is finding out which optic has the total sum of the features that you want.

Before making a large purchase I find myself making Excell spreadshets. I list any and all data I can find on each specific item and then compare at a glance thus ranking each against the other.

At the level of optic you are looking at I doubt any are of questionable quality so it boils down to features. Maybe USO has the ret you prefer but SB has the knobs you prefer. Rank each feature and if the ret is more important than the knobs that bumps up one over the other. May not work for everybody but I find it helps me out greatly.

Also add a remarks section to annotate any quirks that may be mentioned in reviews such as if the eyebox is forgiving or if the clicks are mushy etc.

Bottom line yer on your own, read up and have fun.

For me it's a toss up between S&B 5-25 or March 3-24.

I like lighter weight compact scopes and 10 mil knobs so if I were to spend the money I'd probably go the March route. I'd definitely need to get behind one first though. The two complaints I've read about were a slightly tighter eyebox when dialed up and thicker reticle.

Been behind the S&B quite a few times. Very nice. IMO,a touch better than most scopes out there in more than a few aspects. I know some folks that have had to send there's back. This used to concern me but I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that any amount of money spent will not ensure perfection.

The other high end scopes I didn't feel were worth the money for various reasons and dropped from consideration.

Bought a bunch of HDMR/H59's which I'm pretty satisfied with. Quality way above the price I paid for them!

To me the NF-F1 HS,ZS is the sleeper in the group. Although some don't consider it high end enough.

I am having this battle with myself right now, except in the 3-15/3-12 range. Its down to the PH, S&B, and Hensoldt.

What did you read about the Premier that changed your mind?

I was set on the PH but between ILya and Zak's excellent articles I have S&B and Hensoldt to think about as well.

There is no "best". Only what is "best" for YOU!

Even in the top end of scopes I will look at the latest and greatest and see stuff I don't like.

I.E. the 5x bottom end on the Schmidt that has been mentioned several times is a handicap for some professions. Reticles keep swinging back and forth between not enough precision and something from a Hollywood flick.

You need to look at what is out there and decide what is needed for what YOU do with a rifle. Then decide out of those, which you prefer. I have used scopes that were perfectly capable of the task, but didn't "feel" as good to me as another brand.

LoneWolf hit the nail on the head. You really can't go wrong with any of the top tier manufacturers, and this has been discussed to no end. So when looking at scopes of this level it is all about what scope fits you best and non of us can tell you that it is something you have to figure out for yourself.

I have either owned or used everything from ATN to Premier and at this point their are two brands of optics on my rack Vortex and Premier. Between these two companies I can find any optic I need and I confident and comfortable with the CS they offer.

As far as the IOR is concerned, the 12x on the low end is too much for me. As stated before, list all of your wants and buy the one that has the most of your wants. My guess is that USO would come in first because they can build a scope to suit your needs/wants.
