I need some optics for my AR57 and have a price range up to $500 (or very slightly over). 100 yards is perfect as a max range, though I wouldn't mind up to 150 or 200 since 200 is about the maximum effective range. I need something that has 1x magnification and can magnify to at least 100 yards. I don't think it keeping its zero will be an issue since recoil is extremely light on this rifle, but I would like it to be shock proof and water proof.

I would prefer something without batteries, but would consider a holographic or red dot if it takes AA batteries since these are easy to come by.

Please give me some reccommendations on what to get--I was at the LaRue 3 gun comp this last weekend and saw a lot of aimpoints, acogs, and leopold mark 4's, but I simply don't have the money to drop 1 grand on optics for this rifle.

I know this isn't exactly to your spec, but how about a Mueller 4.5-14×40mm AO Tactical?

I have one on my 10-22 and it has taken quite a beating. If the reason you're wanting 1x is for close range, this scope's focus ring goes down to 25 yards.

If not, how about the Falcon Menace 4-14?

( i have a 5.7 and a PS90: I figure the AR version kicks even less)

You would prefer something without batteries.
That means a trijicon, which already is out of your price bracket, or a weaver 1-3x scope (excellent choice, but not as fast as a dot sight)
Aimpoint is your answer. Yes it uses batteries, but if you leave it on, your battery will go dead in about 4 years. You should be able to live with that. Replace the battery every year on your birthday.

As far as the Mueller, on an ar57, I would opt for the multi-shot, but you will really need a true 1x for 3 gun.

Millet 1-4x24 DMR with a PEPR mount:

These are good little scopes for close-up work and 4x magnification easily gets you out to 200yds (and further). They have a 1MOA center dot which gives you a small dot for extended ranges and an 18MOA "donut" for close-up work. They are well-made scopes that were purpose-built for the AR platform (not specifically the AR57). The best part is the price. As you can see from the link, you can get one with a decent mount for <$300 delivered.

Put a Vortex strikefire red/green dot on my SKS last week and its pretty sweet! cheap too! Battery powered though, but I think they will last awhile says 200-2000 hours depending on dot intensity. Scott at Liberty Optics hooked me up super fast too! It made it here before stuff I ordered two days before and I didn't even have to pay him for shipping!!

The DMS would not fit on an AR57.

Rail space is at a premium with the AR57. To the OP, I say your real viable choices would be a RDS. The Vortex SPARC would be a great choice for you.

What's the warranty on the Vortex SPARC, are there any problems with it, and what batteries does it use? I'm now seriously considering getting one after reading up on it, but want to make sure I'll be able to use my AR57 to its full potential.

Trijicon RMR would fit the bill nicely.

Batteries are not an issue (With the Fiber model) and either would durability.

Running the AR57 upper this would also would not be in the way.
