Yep. It's going to be awhile before you are able to get one. They haven't shipped to many to date and most that are shipping already have homes.

The free stuff doesnt hurt anything, but they are not that big a deal.

I wouldnt buy somewhere just because they send a few dollars worth of schwag.

That said, the two best vendors I have ever dealt with are Scott@Liberty and Doug at CL and not only do they throw in the extra stuff but they also have unsurpassed CS and pricing.

No BS of any type from either.

Enjoy the Viper (not the PST right?) I think you will be very pleased.

Everything I have owned from Vortex- (Viper Binos- Best value binos I have owned and only a tick behind the Leica Trinovids I sold after comparing side by side and seeing just how close they were for about a quarter of the price)

Razor spotter (phenomenal, used it side by side with my main shooting buddy who uses a $2500 Swaro spotter and I actually preferred the Razor spotter, but it did have the eyepiece with a reticle which makes it so much easier to call misses).

4 PST's I have owned now. (all excellent optics and still cant believe what one can do with $850 optics)

I just purchased a Viper PST 6-24 from opticsplanet.com because I had a 10% off discount code. Hey, 90 bucks is 90 bucks that will go towards a qualtiy set of rings for it. Plus, I've had good dealings with them in the past.

I just made my first order (for a couple Viper PSTs) with Cameraland NY last week. It certainly won't be my last, as the service was great.

I did the online chat thing with Optics Planet two weeks ago. I asked if the 6-24 PST was in stock, and I got the generic "we'll get more in 3-4 weeks". I then asked if there's a waiting list. The guy on chat was very upfront. He said it'd be at least 6 months before I saw the scope because the waiting list is extensive.

I put in an order with Liberty Optics. The wait is shorter.

Thank you for posting that! Hopefully all those who are on the PST waiting list at opticsplanet will read your post and immediately cancel their orders en mass, leaving just me on the list!

Looks like Adorama has both Mil & MOA 6-24s in stock plus a lot more models.

I think you got a lot of people's hopes up when they read that, me included :p

I've looked around and called around almost everywhere I could find. I've got a backorder placed through haystack optics as they seemed to be honest about how far they were backordered and they had the lowest backorder time I could find. We'll see if they're lying through their teeth or not though :p

If Scott's backorder gets cleared up early and I don't have a scope then I'll probably order through him.

If you're in no great hurry just do a pre-order with a Hide Vendor. I have done business with all of the ones mentioned above. You will get great service and be supporting a small business that gives back to the community.

Like any preorder it will just make recieiving the scope more exciting. Besides it wouldn't be fair if you got your scope before those of us who have been waiting for over a year now.

Another vote for Scott at Liberty Optics. I've had a 6-24 on order for a while now, I think since June.

Also, I just checked Midways page on the 6-24 ffp mil/mil and it went from a date of 4/15/2011 expected in stock yesterday to 3/12/2012 today...I've never placed much faith in the accuracy of midways dates, but this is a little disheartening.

Edit: Midway now says 5/15/2011, not sure what was going on with their site this morning.

I to say Liberty optics. Scott is a class guy and I like the way he does business. I have e-mailed him several times and more times than not, he does not e-mail me back, he calls me on the phone. I am also on the waiting list for a vortex pst and talked to him today, he called me after I sent him an e-mail. I wont even think about ordering another optic from any other dealer, he has my business.

The shortest wait I know of is with Doug and Neil and Cameraland. They are also the second largest Vortex dealer I believe. When I called, Neil said the wait was about 6 weeks, which is much faster than most, if not all, other dealers.

I guess we're gonna find out. I'll be the guinea pig on this one. I saw the same thing. Some had that note and others did not. The 6-24 SFP mil/mil did not have that disclaimer so we'll see what happens.

However, there IS one caveat. They are observing Passover and it said on their site that any orders placed after 12 noon today wouldn't ship out until the holiday ends on the 24th. I guess 6 days is better than 6 weeks and they don't charge you until your order ships which is nice. I'll let you guys know what they say. Worst case I cancel my order and wait for the next one.

Well it was worth a shot. No idea why some items had a backorder disclaimer and others didn't, but the 6-24SFP is indeed backordered.

I wonder if Vortex knew how many sales they were losing because people don't want to wait between 3 and 8 months for a scope? I understand the logistics but with the peak of shooting season just around the corner you'd think they would find some way to ramp up production.

Until then, I'm going to keep up the search for Bigfoot as I'm probably more likely to find his furry ass first.

There is another sponsor that has not been mentioned in this thread. Primary arms just south of Houston, Tx. I was there a few weeks ago and I looked at a few of the Vortex's. They had them in stock. They are primarily internet based business but are open to locals to purchase across the counter. Take a look at Primaryarms.com. Good luck!

Alright I'm now on board with Liberty Optics. Talked to Scott today. He was a pleasure to deal with. Planned on ordering an older Viper but after he said he was almost caught up on the SFP I signed up. A+ GTG.

Thank for all the good things you say about us, Hiders. We got onboard with Vortex from the very beginning and have never looked back.

Believe me, this PST theater is as painful (or worse) for me as it is for you guys. All we want to do is take care of everybody who asked us to serve their PST needs. We needs lots of scopes, yesterday.....

I've learned a few lessons on how to run such a massive pre-order and we will do much better next time, promise.

We are at the ready to provide alternatives but I think in the long run your patience will be rewarded.

Many backorders are all but eliminated e.g. 1-4x, 2.5-10x44, SFP 4-16 and 6-24, "oddball" FFP scopes. But we have a few (6-24x50 FFP MRAD, 4-16 FFP MRAD, 6-24 SFP MOA) where substantial backorders still exist.

I will say we get as many scopes for our size as any, and in reality quite a bit more.

Again, I am humbled by such strong support on this thread, despite the continued struggle to take care of you guys in a timely manner.
