I'm currently running an LMT MWS with 18" SS barrel, results are mediocre so far but I've been out of the gas game a long time. Part of my trouble is my magpul ACS stock is causing me some discomfort shooting prone. The shape of the buttpad is not an even/ continuously curve, it's got a "bump" at the top side that digs into my shoulder. Additionally, I don't like the shape of the bottom of the stock as it doesn't ride the bag as well as my bolt guns.

What are my options for a more "comfortable" stock? I see the magpul prs looks more bolt gunesque and has what appears to be a consistently shaped buttpad but doesn't appear it's compatible with a collapsing stock buffer tube? Are there any nice long range stocks for collapsing buffer tubes?

Additionally if I go with a collapsing stock, I don't want an exposed latch.

Take a look at the Luth-AR MBA-3. I have a similar setup and use one. You do have to make sure it is extended far enough to use the charging handle.

The Luth stocks are great and reasonably priced. I've actually been very happy with the RPR takeoff stocks on AR's lately. The adjustments are absolute garbage but once you get your PHD in retarded stock design and get it set up right it works very well. Being able to cant the butt pad is a definite plus for prone shooting.

PRS Gen3 is the best available right now. LMT makes a pretty good stock too that you can swap onto a carbine tube with ease. Luth is OK, but not in the same ballpark as Magpul and LMT.

XLR Tac lite. FTW! It's lighter, more comfortable and rides a bag better than a PRS. FYI it takes a carbine buffer and spring.

I hate to say this, as I have one on my JP LRP, but I would steer very clear of Luth AR stocks. A good friend and very experienced shooter (personal and professional) dropped one of his AR's with the Luth AR MBA-1 on it. The rifle slipped from his grip while he was getting it out of the safe, he estimated about 6-10 inches from the ground, onto concrete, and the ass end of the buttstock broke into a few pieces. He said that the drop was nothing. Estimated that mortaring the rifle would put 10x the amount of force on the stock as compared to the fall. If he had to ever mortar the rifle (common method of clearing stuck cases/cartridges), that the Luth would have been obliterated.

I used to really like the Luth's: half the weight and half the price of the Magpul PRS's, but that was prior to friend's MBA-1 detonating.

Although, I am still no fan of the PRS. I love Magpul products, but I don't like the look, weight and feel of the PRS.

I'm ditching the Luth and going with an XLR.

I've never been a fan of the Luth stocks. They look and feel like cheap pieces of shite. Not surprised your buddies detonated...
