Best rear sand bag for field use?

I previously used a stocking with an external sock for field use.
I also have a butt spike but prefer the sand bag option.
Who makes the best portable sandbag for field use?

I prefer something small that can be carried in a pocket. My local range makes their own that measure about 5"x5" with about 1.5" of fill. 8541 tactical makes one very similar that can be purchased online.

TAB gear rear bag, small , light,has a little loop that you can attach a caribiner to hook onto your belt/pack whatever.

You stated ". . . bag for field use". I use both the Triad, and the Tiger Valley Sling Bag (TVSB) described in the following link:

The TVSB works as intended for true field use, max portability, and rapid deployment. At the range, Triad is great, but it's a little heavy to haul around "in the field".

I'd like to grab one of the TAB bags, but I have always just used a hiking sock filled with small beads...because they stretch you can really get the shape you want with just a squeeze of the hand.

I love the " Triad Red Tac" however I'm not going to pay $47.00 for the cheapest postage!

That's absolute bull$@#%. For $49.95 I can get a digital level weighing 5kg in a box sent to my door. I contacted Triad previously regarding postage and was told it was fixed so I won't be purchasing any more items from them. I cant stand companies that over charge for postage, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

So does anyone else know a similar designed bag?

I use the Tacbag (212366)from midway & like it. It was cheap $12.49 but the freight & other charges were $12.85, which wasn't that bad but I thought to much for shipping.

I have TAB, Triad, and Redman. Depends how you drive the rifle. All three of the above mentioned (there are others as well) work very well. Again it comes to you as the driver.

My "go to" bag is a TAB in that it works as a rear bag and can also be fliped to the front if I am shoorting baricades to isolate a hard on hard interface. I also have a Grimloc on mine so it stays on my sling.

It's nothing personal against the owners of Triad. I believe they have some of the best bags on the market however I feel more could be done about the postage.

It doesn't need to be insured or even trackable just registered.

Hell they might even generate more sale.

Every place I have worked has calculated shipping based on the items price. It would cost you less to ship a 14 inch cast iron lodge pan costing 20 dollars than a 50 dollar shirt. Just been my short 6 month exp in retail.

- ups: 100 dollar
- usps: 40 dollar

i really have to get a few things together to add the shipping costs on top of that

but again - the help and support from steve is great, so i'm willing to pay a bit more.

well. or sometimes i ship to friends and either collect when i visit them, or have them bring it to me when they come by. but that's not really that often either

I used to write the software that web-stores use to sell their products. The vast majority (of small stores at least) use software provided by the shipping company to generate their shipping costs, based entirely on weight and size.

To Aussie, USPS does flat rate for that type of stuff. Size mostly doesn't matter, unless it's really big or really small, and weight doesn't matter unless it's over 70 pounds.

The best field use rear bags I've used are the bottom of the cam pants cut off and sewn up. Presto, a cheap light weight bag with a built in drawstring so you can pack and carry it empty so it takes up no room or weight in your gear and fill to size once near or in position.

Or an old sock full of plastic filler beads....

What shits me is that companies are to lazy to try and find the cheapest methods of postage to international destinations.

You know how much they weigh, their dimensions and their value. Small box that will fit the necessary product in making the potential customer satisfied with the delivery means with a sweet taste in their mouth and guaranteeing repetitive clientele. Instead of person feeling the need to voice their dissatisfaction when postage costs twice as much as the item itself because it's easier for the seller to have an automated calculator. It's only efficient if your selling your products.

You guys need to stop smoking crack. The best bag for 'field' use is the one you dont have to stop and pull out of your pocket to deploy.

John I was looking at those and was going to buy one and try it out but got lucky enough to grab one off the prize table at the Bushnell Brawl. I used it at the Score High match and it worked very well in the stages where it would be easier to have the rear bag attached and not have to pull it out like run and gun stuff. On the other stages I used my standard home made bag of poly pellets in socks sewn shut and shoe gooed.

Thanks Rob, thats the kinda feedback i like to hear. If you have time to get out your TAB or Triad bag, by all means do it. But if you drop your bag moving into position, like ive done more than once, its a great alternative. You may find its all you need most of the time.

And that's also why we have the triple stitched section on the back of our slings, to provide a way to stabilize the rifle if you don't have time to get your bag out. I was fortunate enough to place 10th at an RO match using only the thick part of the sling to support the rifle during the entire match.

Back to shipping though, we always go out of our way to try to provide the cheapest shipping to our customers over seas, even to Australia.

Yes, we do have an "upcharge" for international orders... <span style="font-size: 23pt"><span style="font-weight: bold">$3.00</span></span> This goes to cover the cost of the time that it takes to complete the customs forms, and the fact that we have to take them to the post office.

Other than that, the price is based on the weight of your order, and the cost of the insurance to cover the purchase price of your items. Its a price based on what USPS quotes for the weight to your location+insurance+$3.00.

The first time that I had to eat the cost of a $400 order, was the last time we shipped without insurance/tracking or with a service class lower than Priority Mail.

I guess comments like "overcharge" and "That's absolute bull$@#%" are not personal, but if I told you that your decisions are bullshit, it is what it is.

Thin skinned today I guess.

I am using a bag filled with airsoft bbs that I then placed in a crown royal bag its prefect and it doesnt tend to grow legs as its purple and easy to find.

You can send an international item weighing up to 2kg (4.4 lbs) registered to the US for $23.00.

I will not be purchasing anything from Triad Tactical and believe in word of mouth of good sellers.

For me Euro optic and Bigdog steel to name a few.

Purchasers aren't stupid and know that if you sellers did their research they could get the postage costs down.

I took a pair of old blue jeans and cut a section out of the leg the size that I wanted, sewed the ends together and filled with plastic pellets. I made different sizes/fill amounts until I got it like I wanted. They hold up well and were cheap.

Never said it was the cheapest option. I said it was the cheapest option we are willing to use. Here is a screenshot for shipping a RTG/TAB or Triad rear bag to Australia:

USPS Priority Mail International is the lowest level of service we use because it is insurable, trackable and the postage and customs can be completed and paid for on the USPS.com website.

Using First Class would require that somebody stands in line at the post office and has each order processed/entered by hand by the post office staff.

Triad 's shipping is certainly not bad, 40 dollars for getting a package sent out from the US, filling out the right customs forms, pack it, ship it, and keep it insured and trackable, and taking the time to do the process.
I am sure you would be screaming if your bag did not make it to Australia, and nobody could tell you where it went.......

As with most international orders, it usually pays off buying more then one single item at a time.
