What is the consensus on the best rest to accurately shoot a rifle at the range. (Not prone position) Are sandbags front and rear still the consensus, or do you prefer the bipod up front and a bag in the rear, or a bipod up front and a monopod at the rear? Also, do you use a different set up for your initial sight in and then use another for routine shooting. What do you use and why? Thanks.

I always use the best rest available. Sometimes it is sandbag, sometimes it is bipod, sometimes it is backpack. There is no magic bullet when speaking of rest. But 90% of the time I use bipod up front and a rear bag.

Personally I prefer A bipod/monopod combo for zeroing and then just the bi-pod after. The mono-pod's great for making small adjustments when zeroing but almost never practical in the field and therefore i train without it.

I agree with bipod up front and bag in the rear. As to one set up for initial and another for routine shooting, this isn't the best idea. If the different set ups alter the rifle differently during recoil, you could see a shift in the point of impact between the two. Use whatever you are going to be normally shooting when you sight the rifle in.

Dog-gone-good bags. Look them up. They hold your rifle solid and allow you to focus on other fundamentals rather than keeping the bags/bipod steady. I took mine out the other day and it helped my group 5 shots within a quarter at 300 yards with my .308 Savage model 10.
