Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

Hi how are you doing tikka, I was in the same position you were in but that topic has been beat to death use the search function and then if there is still questions feel free to ask. With that there are plenty of scopes. What is your budget? Provide these guys with as much info as you can and they will be invaluable to your search

SWFA
Bushnell
Weaver

just to name a few...

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

200.00 range 10x40 Bushnell tactical elite
300.00 range swfa in your choice of 6x,10x,16x,20x
can't go wrong with either of those and you have to go to the 700.00+ range to beat them.

If you are only shooting to 1000 yards I'd go 10x if further I'd go 16x. The fixed powers will let you accurately range with your mildots and be able to use them for corrections onto target.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

If I were spending $200, the Bushnell 3200 10x40 would get my vote as well.

Between $300 and $500 would be the original series Vortex Vipers. Anything from the 3.5-10 up to the 6.5-20 models. Superb scopes for the money.

I know the Vipers aren't made in China and I don't think the 3200 series Elites are either but I'm not 100% sure on the Bushnell.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

Check out the Midway exclusive Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40 with mildots and mil adjustments. It's reported to have excellent glass and track great. Plus you get the MIL/MIL setup. It only has a 1" tube and around 60 MOA of travel, so it should be mounted on a 20 MOA base. I ordered one for a .243 I'm building to whack coyotes and occasionally ground squirrels. It will be here today and I plan to evaluate and review it. It is currently on sale for $299

Any of the SWFA scopes with good rings and sun shade and caps and you're set for that price range.

Good Luck,
Merritt

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

If using it for hunting, I would and have recommended the variable. I was recently faced with the same dilema, SS 10x42 was ruled out because of the fixed power and MOA/MIL. I will mostly be using this rifle for predator hunting, but until my 260 gets built it will double as a paper puncher.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

The field of view on the SS 10x is huge I see no reason you can't hunt with it unless your going to engage at 20yards or closer.

Good Luck,
Merritt

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

Let me know if u need any help on mounting it and stuff. I live in west Shreveport. Id look at the swfa also. Best bang for buck. I had the scope in my siggy and it was 500ish

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

SWFA SS 10x42 if you don't mind the fixed power, I just order one of the package deals with both caps and a sunshade for $299.

Seems like the best price for a good scope on a budget. I was looking for a rugged scope with adjustable turrets and a mil-dot reticle, and this fits the bill perfectly.

SWFA is also great to deal with, and a forum sponsor.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

If you were to go with the falcon, I would recommend the 4-14 EMD reticle.

The ML16 is a really nice reticle on the range, but tends to disappear in clutter.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

X2 on the weaver Tacticals for a descent scope if variable scopes is your need. If you dont mind Fixed power then SWFA all the way in 10 or 16x

I have the SS 10X on my Rem 700. Took it to TVP and I struggled a bit to see the steel out at 1000. Cross hairs were pretty much covering the plate. For me it was possible but, a bit challenging at that range.

I have a VX3 4.5 - 14 X 50. Varmint hunters reticle. Pricier than I thought we were talking. I like mine a lot. On a 700 VS in 223. Bad ass. I can see like a teenager. Am going to order a VX3 6 - 18 X 50 with target turrets and varmint reticle. [Have a 260 coming ]. Like having a fine duplex zeroed at 200 and stadia for holds. May be a bit fine for you , don't know' Target for sure. Hunting, I don't know if a duplex would be better?
These are fine scopes and will not be needing to be upgraded if the mechanics work for you. So far, working great for me.

+1 Yeah, What he said!

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

I got the vx3 6.5-20x50 with target reticle. Looks great and is clear as hell. Is was a bit pricey but it was a xmas gift from the gf so what guy could complain?

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

I personally like the Nikons. Great scopes for the price. I prefer them over the Leupolds. I have a monarch on a savage 110 .270win and a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 on my Savage 10 FLCP-K .308win. I love my Zeiss but the Nikon has the bang for the buck appeal.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

Another vote for the Falcon 4-14 with the EMD reticle. A great starter setup, just a little heavy.

Re: best scope for budget build!!!!!!!!! Please help

I have a few SS 16x and am quite pleased with it. Although if you can swing the extra cash, an IOR 16x will knock your socks off.
