I have a .308 sps varmint in a Bell and carlson varmint/tactical stock. I have almost everything else picked out except the optics. I plan on shooting no more than 500yard but more on the line of 200 and 300 mostly because closest range does not have anything over 300. Any suggestions guys and gals??

Millett TRS-1 MIL/MIL. I think they're $299.00 at SWFA. Great scope for the money in my opinion.

If you don't need a mil-dot ret. I would suggest one of the closeout Vortex Vipers. Glass is good for the price and the warranty is great if you ever have to use it. You can get one from a sponsor of this site. If you need a mil-dot one of the older swfa ss would fit in your budget. If you have to have mil/mil get the Bushnell 10x 3200 from Midway. I have or had all of these and they are all nice for the price.

If i decide on Millet TRS-1 should i go with 1/4 or .1 on the windage knobs. I really have always used 1/4 but would like to learn how to use the others as well. Thats a nice looking scope.

I just bought one of these and like it a lot. I did the mil/mil version. I think Midway has them this week for $289. My primary rifle carries a NF with moa reticle and moa knobs, and I did the mil/mil thing so I could get familiar with it, just like you're suggesting.
I do some testing on scopes, things like verifying the tracking and click values, and the Millett passed well. It's no Nightforce, but it's a great deal at the price. One especially nice feature is that it will focus down to living room distances allowing me to dryfire in the house.

The new Milletts don't have 1/8 turrets anymore. They have either 1/4 moa or .1 mil. I would get the .1 mil because it matches the mil dot reticle. Their customer service isn't bad either. It is handled through Bushnell now and there are some members here who have had very good experiences with their CS.

Bushnell 3200 10x mildot. Great scope for the money. I have one as a backup I carry around and loan out. I had one in my pack one year at TPRC that let me finish the match after my S&B went tits up.
