Rifle Scopes Best scope mount for AR platform

Getting ready to mount a primary arms ACSS to my AR 15 multi cal. Looking for a single piece QD mount that won’t break the bank and want to hear what y’all OG’s and veterans prefer! Burris pepr is affordable. ADM ok. But I've had both fail. If you slightly lap the rings and tap rosin bag to scope where rings contact mount, you might be ok. I would personally avoid the QD models and get non QD version with bolts. ADM sells what they call GI bolts, so you can change their QD mounts over. Or step up to JP, Aadmount, or similar higher quality option.

I do have a lot of reserve about QD on an optic. Never had one on an optic so don’t know much about the pros and cons. Obviously pros to hard mount would be reliability as long as everything stays torqued

QD is the weak link. Otherwise they're ok. Used them for two years in PRS. Then halfway through day two of Gap grind it failed. Cost me and my partner a top 10-15 finish. Live and learn.

Sure, a lot of dudes will try to get full retail for their used stuff, but they end up dropping the price after a month of bumping and wondering why no one wants to pay $300 for their “like new” mount that retails new for $280.

If you need QD, then I’d try a LaRue. LaRue gets a lot of hate on here but I’ve never had an issue with their mounts on ARs. You can find them pretty cheap on here (around $120-$150 shipped).

If you don’t need QD, which no one really does, then check out Badger and NF.

The new search engine will help shift through the Accessories and Optics pages for some mounts, which is way easier than what it used to be.

Don’t buy shit rings/mounts that have to be lapped. Buy quality modern day mounts and you don’t have to worry about lapping. ....this isn’t the 1940s...

lol will do man. Stuff goes quick so it’s pretty much luck-based snags lol. You’ll see the good deals post and sell within 5 minutes sometimes.

Best thing I’ve found is to research the three mounts that will work for you then do a search on here and TacSwap for em. See what has sold for what and then see what’s available. Another thing you have going for you is Black Friday coming up. Always good retail sales then.

Another thing to consider when picking a mount is future use. Buying a solid mount now can do double duty for you in the future. So spending a bit more to get quality now will save you money down the road should you change optics. Always invest in quality accessories, as they will last you a lifetime and are transferable between systems.

Man thanks so much for the advice. I may wait and see what Black Friday deals hit before I pull the trigger. A solid mount is probably the sure fire way to go. Yeah a lot of these companies will provide a FF discount which I don’t mind paying retail to a reputable American made and built or veteran owned company without a discount for sure.

I responded to the 'wont break the bank' part of your original post. That's where Burris and ADM come in. But they need some extra care to work in my opinion.

If you look at a higher quality mount as sounds like above, that opens lots of doors. Nightforce unimount is one of my favorites. I also have a JP enterprises mount that is solid. Aadmount and MPA are top shelf.

If you go the latter route you might save yourself some headache. And as said above, they last forever and you can repurpose it later on another rifle.

I have 3 different Bobro mounts (QD, I swap scopes around). They seem to work well but that's a subjective assessment, I haven't tracked any RTZ data to back it up.

I just ordered a Larue mount for my new 34mm scope, had a good experience with their 0 MOA 30mm setup on my AR10. At 160$ for the non-QD version it's cheaper than most of the decent sets I've bought before and has a RTZ guarantee... not sure that matters but I haven't had RTZ issues, so there's that.

The dude is trying to outfit a battle rifle. I know this forum is focused on precision shooting, but keep in mind that there might be other factors to consider.

If you don't absolutely need qd I'd say look at aero precision or Burris pepr.

I've had good luck with Adm. I can't recommend Larue after having issues with the rings slipping on the base with several, even after they were correctly torqued on assembly and retorquing.

Funny I just put the 7.62x39 ACSS on my gasser with a Burris PEPR(not QD although I've owned 2 of those as well). They have performed perfectly for me. On my Burris QD/Vortex Diamondbac it shared time on my 308AR and x39 AR with a Pulsar thermal on QD as well.....the amount of times those 2 scopes were swapped around never losing zero has to be in the hundreds.

I have two AR-10s with the offset sights. They work. I'm still trying to get used to them though. I went that route because with the longer range scopes, these give you an instant short range option. And they double as BUIS.

Some folks think their EOTechs and Aimpoints are bulletproof. I don't. It's a personal choice.

Yeah I’m running the holosun 510C on it now but will be moving it over to my short gun once I figure out what I’m mounting. Sounds like rigid mount along with offset backups is the way to go

I was waiting to see when I would get scolded and brow beat over the primary arms decision!? like many I wish I had the money for an ACOG or similar but this started out as a budget gun as my wife was carrying my primary AR as her duty rifle until the PD finally decided to issue duty rifles. Mid build they got theirs and my Noveske came back to the safe. And then of course I got bit by the bug and outfitted my main hunting rig with a Mcmillan then built a 6.5 soooooo I’ve spent way more than expected on other spur of the moment projects????

Man, all those times running a MK11 as a primary in combat...I was so stupid to not have a QD mount. Shit all those times running an SR25 and MK12 without QD rings...needlessly putting the client at risk like an idiot.

To be fair to your point, I was running S&Bs and NFs on those, not primary arms. I get we all have different budgets, which is understandable in make believe battle rifle boogaloo land where it doesn’t matter, but GTFO of here with that noise.

I remember one cat I met, he was listening to the whole “which BUIS” debate. And he had a look on his face.

I said “you okay bud?”. He said he had probably seen guys in his different units fire hundreds of thousands of rounds at bad folks in-country and had never seen someone flip up their back ups. Even once. In 15 years of war in the sandbox.

It was at that point I took the back ups off my gun that has a 45 degree rmr and a nightforce 2.5-10. Figured if both of those were down I was well ventilated as well.

You asked about the model numbers for the LaRue mounts. Depending on the height you prefer for your cheek-weld and your current system setup, there are a few that can work. Stay away from the vertically split rings and stick with a non-cantilever mount, if you can get away with it. Depending on your setup, you might be stuck getting that style though. If that’s the case, find a non-LaRue cantilever. Hit up their site and you can browse through them and the specs.

For a budget set up, I run a Primary Arms 4-14 in a Warne mount on a 18 inch AR. No issues. Not the best glass, but it works.

Thats not what I'm doing, I've got a couple cheap scopes also and I get it. I just didn't see you saying this was a duty gun, but if it is then I would recommend against the PA.

This is the mount I just ordered for my Tango6, I've been using a LT104 with QD for a few years on my Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x and while I haven't measured extactly RTZ I had taken it off to clean or travel with the rifle, and have put it back on and had it be good enough for 100-200 yard shots to hit. I know every vendor has good and bad days, but that's my .02

Hey, shoot what you can... I have Dimondback and Strike Eagle scopes, which last I checked everyone says are crap... but if I drop my rifle down a hill and break my 200$ scope I won't cry over it. I wouldn't put a UTG on something, I have some standards, but as long as they stay zero'd and they put the crosshair where the bullet is going, good enough for most. I for one know my equipment is more accurate than I am!

For a rifle scope (as opposed to something like a red dot) I only trust two QD mounts if I were to actually use the QD feature on a regular basis, Bobro and GDI.

There was a definitive test done perhaps 5 years ago on QD mounts and repeatability.

Bobro came out first by a large margin. I have several Bobros and a LaRue. I greatly prefer the Bobro although I don't have anything negative to say about the LaRue. The Bobro is just better.

Yeah I found that test when I was doing my research, definitely steered me towards Bobro. I just haven’t confirmed the results personally.

No this one isn’t, it’s one I was building because I didn’t know when my wife was going to get her issued duty rifle. Now this is gonna be my go to truck gun
