Best semi auto 308 /dmr

I like the AR10s - in the AR slant back family I have had good luck with LMT and Mega receivers. In the DPMS family I have had good luck with the Aero receiver. The LMT is factory the others were built up (barrels by Larue and Criterion) My shooting buddy has a Larue OBR and a Aero build up as well that shoot very well for him. I haven't tried to optimize loads for them but I get .8~1.0 MOA with 155g BTHPM ammo which lets me hit steel for fun.

Ar 10 vs scar vs apc
In terms of number of users interchangeability and availability basically service life.
Ever considered the the sar8 over stamped or original import hk-91? I have one and have never done any shooting beyond 300 yards with a mid grade scope or 100 with open sights but I love that rifle but I doubt it’s an actual “precision” rifle but it’s impressive so far out to 300 yards. Fun rifle to play around with.

I had a scar 16s and I still regret selling it. I do have a B&T APC9 and am surprised with the quality and function of the firearm. I think it will come down to handling all 3 and seeing what feels best for you. Good luck on finding 3 at once though

With bias due to working there.

HK MR762 absolutely bomb proof. Advantage of above and running the Test and Prototype dept is that we get to fry, freeze and mix guns with dirt to see what they do. Find one of the older heavy profile barrel units, although the muzzle threading is hinky!

Twist rate is 1 in 11 so stay with the lighter projectiles. 175grain and 185 grain are usable but on the ragged edge. Best option is Warner 150 grain Flatlines over 44.4 grains of H4895. Barrels like the solids.

I built mine. Purposely bought a super cheap PSA kit, then outfitted it with upgrades that I knew would be more reliable and probably longer lasting. Basically the buffer and gas system. I did have the BCG and Bolt spec'ed by Rubber City Armory, who does the nitriding on it, and it spec'd fine so I did not end up buying a better BCG/bolt for it.

So far it's been 100% and with good match ammo, is around 1moa.

Had some hot ammo blow primers sunday, american marksman m118lr, One got lodged in the gas key of the sr25 apc and straight bent it slightly. Completely fucking the gun from working without taking it down and prying it out.

Mean while simultaneously ( same case of ammo) a scar 17 went down from the same Issue, but had a piece of shrapnel from a blown primer get in the firing pin channel and prevented the pin from floating anymore. Had shot about 1200 rounds of this ammo previously no issues.

The scar we broke it down and pulled the firing pinnout with plyers and it was good to go withstood no damage.

My point being, a gun is only as good as the ammo. Also This ammo we thought was good 2 go. Maybe it it was a one off? So shit happens maybe? Maybe only shoot black hills is the lesson? Or only shoot a psa so, If it fucks up who cares. 😂

Not a fan of the Sig 716 as its very proprietary. Had one, and got rid of it, too difficult to modify for my taste.

Sgt of Arms makes an absolute hammer of an AR10 and builds them for PRS gas gun competitions (my first choice)
JP Rifles (2nd choice, also builds specifically for PRS/2 gun/3 gun)
LMT
GA Precision

Definitely drive my decisions from current competition results. The top pros will spend the money on the best stuff. Not what everyone "thinks is cool"

.308 Seekins SP10’s pop up not infrequently in the PX for around $3000 but ultimately sells for around $2200.
GAP10 sold for $2000 here

Personally if I were doing a conventional layout 7.62x51 shooter today, the SFAR and SCAR-20 would be the shortlist candidates, depending on budget.

the SCAR has seriously good accuracy thanks the the barrel quality, and is quite light, though I'd look at replacing the lower to use SR-25 Pattern mags (upper is the serialized bit anyhow) and a better trigger, then suppress it and put in an aftermarket buffer to tame some of the hard recoil on it.

We had originally had SR25s overseas and then switched over to Larue OBRs after testing. The Sig 716 G2 DMRs were actually at the top of the list but Sig couldn't provide enough rifles due to having to fulfill the CANSOF contract at the time.

I think once the MCX-Spear is fully rolled out on the civilian side with the long barrel variants (they have showed a 20" barrel 6.5CM variant at an event) it will be in the running to go with the two from my previous post. A bit chunkier than the other options listed, but having more options is always good.

Still no details on the supposed .308 Bren 2 from CZ being imported here.

Your thoughts on the OBR vs SR25? Which did you like better or how did they compare?

They are both great guns. If it was my money, it would go towards an OBR. Cost wise it's hard to justify SR25 money when you can buy other great guns at a lower cost. Shooting wise they both shoot great, recoil is the same, honestly not really much difference between the two.

Has anyone had any experience with the new small frame Ruger 308 , I'm in the market for a semi 308 , but haven't seen any 1st hand reviews on the Roger, other than the usual gun mag writer's , that you have to take with a whole lot of grains of salt, Brownell has them for 1k .

There is a significant thread on it here. Its decent, but still suffering first generation teething issues with the gas system.

If you’re wanting just a standard AR10 style I would stick with either building or buying something with the DPMS pattern parts. Makes it easy and no proprietary crap to deal with.

If you want more precision, it’s hard to beat the Seekins SP10

I had the same blown primer problem with that stuff. I pulled some 10-20 rounds down and there was a variance of 1-3 grs of charge weight.
