My bud wants to get an AR style gun in .308 and has a $1500 budget.

Thoughts?

not sure what the LWRC REPR runs, but he has considered that as well... Thoughts?

he would more than double that for the repr
the sig 716 (2300 now, 1650 pre freak out) is a best buy in that class
sw new .308 id look at also. should be around that and their 5.56 are best buys IMO

If you can find one a DPMS LR308 is a fine rifle and can usually be had for less than $1500. Don't believe the naysayers. Don't believe the fanboys either.

Yeah the DPMS rifles aren't bad but finding one for a reg price (never mind how hard it is to find mags) will be a pain.

He might be able to get an m1a for that price with a couple mags on the used market, I saw a National Match model go for 2k with half dozen 20rd mags.

The only thing you can probably buy in that range is a Stag or maybe a Windham Armory AR. I'd try to find a M1A Standard. While not an AR, it is a great semi auto but is in 308.

I have personal experience with a cmmg markIII. It's been great to me, but immediately needs a new trigger. I'd look for one of them, but since they have a lot fewer in the marketplace it will probablybe tough to find.

Edit: sorry to get up hopes, they aren't accepting ship orders.

I ordered a DPMS Lr-308 during the first craze...IE early 2009. It took around 5 months to get but it was only 1150 bucks new. I haven't shot it much, maybe 40 rounds but it seems to me a solid sub MOA shooter with handloads. The trigger is god awful though and I really never know when it is going to fire while shooting.

Agreed. I bought one from CDNN when they had them at blowout prices ($11 or 1200) with full rails, Magpuled out. Gun shoots PHENOMINAL and althought the trigger is no gieselle, its serviceable for a 2 stage. I have handled much worse (RRA NM).

One of the beter deals and values I have ever gotten in the firearms world. When I shoot out the Barrel, going to throw a Krieger or similar and a URX3 rail on there.

My prediction is that we'll be through the worst of this craze in 2-6 months...mags are already starting to trickle back in and the manufactures are going to be hopefully caught up by the end of the summer. With that I'd recommend a Rock River Arms rifle in just about any of their models or calibers. I've owned several and they are a solid, reliable middle of the road AR rifle....you really can't go wrong with one.
