Best ways to tune up a vepr

like the title says best ideas to improve accuracy, performance and repetitiveness. what are you bet ideas.

Which specific model are you referring to? There are MANY different VEPR variants/models out there going back MANY years now, but...with all said...its a VEPR and as AK variants go...just go shoot it and leave it well enough alone as it arguably isn't going to get a whole lot (if any) better and is actually one of the better variants out there in my experience with them!

They are as accurate as they'll likely get without sacrificing reliability which is what an AK is all about anyway...not delivering precision-levels of accuracy (which brings up another question...what sort of accuracy, and with what ammo, are you getting now that you think needs or can otherwise be improved upon?). Not sure what you mean by "performance" and "repetitiveness" improvements, but again...it is a quality AK variant right out of the box for what an AK is/was designed to do. Now, you can go off half-cocked and start in with purely "aesthetic upgrades" from stocks/grips to optics/mounts to all sorts of tacticool @#$% like the SVD-style conversions, etc., but I personally wouldn't recommend it. The other advice I'll offer is feed it right and don't load it up with a bunch of Brown Bear/Silver Bear, {INSERT OTHER CRAP AMMOS HERE}, etc. if you want the "most" out of it performance-wise.

Aside from that advice...you might fare better asking your question in a more appropriate venue such as one of the AK forums or even perhaps one of the dedicated Saiga/VEPR/etc. areas on the interweb.

don't touch anything. It shoots as it shoots.

or you can start from changing pistol grip and stock to AR grip and AR stock, add fancy rails, end end up with Lahti mags.
But it will not affect the accuracy of the system.

sorry thought i answered that it is the new tactical vepr in 54r

These aren't even out yet are they?!?! I didn't think they were available until sometime next month or so?

Any way about it...once you have the rifle in hand, take it out of the box, clean it up, lube it up and shoot the piss out of it. Sure, you can add whatever optics you'd like with a quality mounting solution (I can't recall which rail setup the VEPR Tactical uses), but aside from that...leave it the hell alone and enjoy it. If you want a "precision semi-auto" then my advice is sell the VEPR once you have it in hand and get any number of different options that are FAR better suited to the role, especially anything in the large-frame AR platform which has far more accuracy potential than even the best AK variants available.

I tried accurizing a VZ2008 (AK variant) with scopes and diligent handloading using a wide array of components.

It wasn't worth the effort - I agree with others to just shoot it and live with its accuracy that it is willing to give you.

first off the biggest thing a ak usually has going agents it is the ammo now the vepr that i have on order fires the 54r and for those that dont know with a good proper load the ballistics are a little better thani 308. I also plan on braking down polishing the trigger putting on a posp 4-12 scope and on top of all that blue printing every thing should should shoot about 1moa by the time i hit the range if it is as accurate as my buddies psl I did the same to and it should with a better barrel and scope. But we shale see. I do not believe in the leave it alone how many people out there bought ar 10s and are for ever working on them to push that lase .o1 moa out of them just look at a vepr in 54r as the ar 10 of the ak world

Somewhere Stoner and others are rolling over in their respective graves just contemplating the utter absurdity of that statement, but hey...its your rifle, your time and your money, so have at it with all deliberate speed. I bid you good luck in your quest as it is without a doubt an interesting project to tinker around on and a fun platform to play with regardless of the outcome of the quest!

Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't polish up the trigger or replace it outright with a quality aftermarket solution if the smithing on it fails to improve things to your satisfaction. Similarly, if there is something about the stock, factory rifle that fails to fit you as the owner/shooter, then have at changing it so that it does. However, the search for precision levels of accuracy with an AK variant is going to be an exercise in wasted time, energy, money and ammo by in large.

If the trigger stinks there is a company called red star arms that makes a 2 stage AK pattern trigger, it feels about like a garand or m1a trigger. After that the only real thing you can do is handload for it but if it's 54R that will be an expensive proposition since brass is hard to come by and the 30cal russing bullets are acutally around .311 rather than .308 like USA.

My advice is to just get a bunch of surplus ball 54R ammo and shoot the thing. Figure you have a big AK and be happy with it.

Looking for something to build into an accurate rifle get a decent bolt gun.

The POSP scopes are kind of junk, look for a mount with a decent amount of forward cantilever and then put a more conventional scope on it.

This guy's setup is a bit overkill but you should get the idea. That mount is the common russian 'Vepr' mount I think:

edit: I'm not saying that putting your rings that close to the turret like he has is a good thing. If it were me I'd get a beater japanese scope like the 10X bushnell or SWFA super sniper 6X as well.

the posp is going to be my hunting scope and with deer season so close that had to be the priority.I know it has a tapco g2 in it so at least it is not total crap. other than that it is just a heavy barrald over sized ak. The next thing i will be doing is putting a knew stock on it for adjustability. after that that's where i have know idea
