Here’s the thing...when he says something, he means it. That’s the part that people need to stop and actually understand. He isn’t just blowing smoke for votes, like other politicians do. He no shit means it and, if elected, will do everything he can to make it happen.
While it’s great that he is a politician that puts his full weight behind the words he says, it isn’t great that he’s chosen this beach to storm. Say what you will about him, that’s a trait that very few politicians have ever displayed.
While I obviously won’t be voting for him, many will despite the polls. ...and as we all know, polls are bullshit. Even a message with low numbers now can have a drastic ripple years down the road.
Emotions, rants, form letters, insults, social media comments, and memes aren’t going to change the tide. Cool, calm, collective political actions are the key to success. His social media feed is covered with comments yelling at him and his followers to “come and take em” “shall not be infringed” “I’m going to go buy more ammo for my guns” “you can fucking try” “fuck you cuck” “you ain’t taking my shit libtard” etc. ...like I’ve said before, this isn’t how you change the message and win votes...or ears.
Until we fix our community, gun owners will be the biggest threat to gun ownership.

The drastic ripple effects of this sort of messaging is what I fear the most. Bernie Sanders is a good recent example of how controversial platforms can quickly garner a large following and become a movement.
While I agree unhinged, purely emotional responses are not productive and won’t get it done, the intended audience and those we need to influence with our messaging and actions need to see that we are angry. They need to see/hear/feel us and understand we won’t take this lying down. An 80-20 or 90-10 mix of reason and emotion (90% reason of course) if I had to express it numerically.
Agree that we have a lot of work to do as a community and it needs to get done real fast.

When y’all start criticizing the 2a supporters just because they say what’s on their mind without sugar coating it you give Democrats ammunition. When you talk like they are hurting the cause for exercising their 1st to show their resolve for the 2nd you encourage anyone who thinks they can take a right from us. True, but the takeaway from this should be that the Democrats now feel comfortable talking about bans and confiscations publicly. I think that's an improvement over the old days, when most of them publicly said they didn't want to ban guns, but their actions spoke differently. But it speaks volumes about the changing demographics in this country, which will only shift more in their favor as time passes.

Edit.. up here in Alaska I probably see a lot more open carry than you, especially in the summer. I profile.. I shouldn’t admit it because I’m only a civilian now but.. it appears a lot of people come up here from other states just to be able to open carry and see how big of a revolver they can wear..
I have several family members who all have an Alaskan hunt on their life list. Every last one of them includes buying a bear revolver in that plan. Deep down its just something they want but they use Alaska as an excuse to get one. I imagine thats extremely common. FWIW when I backpacked the Talkeetnas and Chugach for 6 weeks in my youth I only had mace (I wasnt 21 yet though) which is statistically better vs a griz. They dont seem to let that affect their decision to get a BFR.

While I do agree that it is their right to open carry, providing it is legal in their location, I think it is the WORST thing you could do in terms of a self-defense posture.
Between NC, Texas, and AZ, I see quite a bit in the malls and grocery stores. It is the usual Glock or S&W in a nylon Uncle Mike's holster that is flopping in the wind or some shitty index one that looks like the plastic produce bag could give it a run for its money in terms of durability and retention. Although I've never been to Alaska, I could see that being popular there. Between the crazy Palins and bears, you have to be able to defend yourself from a wild animal at any time lol.

I do agree that posting on yahoo news isn’t going to help the cause but why handicap ourselves by playing by the rules. They do not. I agree that we need to be vocal, that’s why I said politically active.
However being vocal in the comments of social media posts isn’t doing anything but giving the others screen grabs to use as propaganda. The comment sections where someone doesn’t go full asshole immediately usually starts with composed and valid points. But after a few replies with someone who is opposed, it turns into a childish pissing match. We don’t need that kind of voice or image.
Being respectful to those who have opposing viewpoints is required to remain on positive ground. If we lose that, we lose any chance of staying afloat politically.
