Is it better to buy
A. A gun thats never been fired with a manufacturers sub-moa guarantee.

B. Same gun as A, but has had a five shot at 100 yard group proving its accuracy?

Not enough information provided to give an educated opinion. Rifle B has a proven 5-shot group. How many other rounds are really down the tube on this rifle? Is this barrel halfway through its useful life and the 5-shot group is from when it was first broken in? What is the price? Are the prices equal? Or is one a better deal? Do you trust the seller of rifle B?

Otherwise, all things being equal, a known entity that is broken in and known to shoot well is better if that's what you are after.

Same rifle. It can have a 5 shot group done before the purchase or left as is built. Is it basically a up to the consumer type request. A to each his own kinda deal?

It's pretty open and shut. If they don't charge you any extra to give you a 5 shot group, and they tell you what ammo or load they used to get that group, why would you pass it up?

Barrel break-in is, more or less, a myth perpetuated by barrel makers to sell more barrels (you have to replace it faster if you break it in with 50-200 rounds than if you don't break it in at all). If that was a concern of yours, don't worry about it.

No i agree on the barrel break in part. Is it normal for people to charge to have a proven group done up for them?
Depends on the place. A lot of gunsmiths or companies will provide you with a test target by default to prove the gun meets their accuracy standard. A lot of other gunsmiths or companies won't even offer it as an option. Some of them charge for it, others don't.

If it's a reputable gunsmith/company and they want to charge extra for that I'd say don't bother since the accuracy of the rifle shouldn't be in question. If the gunsmith/company is one that you aren't confident can produce an accurate rifle, why are you buying from them in the first place?

I say take it if it's free but if it costs extra don't bother or don't buy if you're too uncomfortable to buy without it.

Just buy the gun, it will probably shoot better than you can. If anything, I would inquire about breakn-in. That's a pain in the but, better off having a gunsmith shoot, clean,shoot,clean...breaking-in a barrel can take some time but make sure they clean with a bore guide. That's really important to me.

IMO, the biggest cause of barrel problems is cleaning. If the dealer is not careful they can mess up your barrel with rough handling cleaning rods etc. So if your not sure about the integrity of your gunsmith or dealer....just take gun home and do all the work your self.

Research barrel breakin....Bartlein barrel and snipershide did a video on you tube that goes over break-in

My gunsmith generally test fires everything so his customers can see the proof. However I didn't have my last 2 or 3 barrels test fired by the gunsmith so that I could get the rifle shipped sooner. But he does fantastic work so I was not at all worried it would shoot.
