It's based on the lunar calendar and starts on the 15 of nisan and goes for 7 days, when you use the gregorian you need to take this into account. Since you know Jesus rose during passover (Whole last meal was during passover and he and his followers had been Jewish). Than around the 1500s we switched to a Gregorian calendar in the west, while eastern orthdox still go by the council of nicae, this is why their Easter is in May this year. Jesus to have died during passover is well discussed in the Bible. The gospels of Luke, Matthew, and Mark mention it.
