I think both parties are actual far more centrist than they play on TV. The same way I think Trump is far more stable than the rating fool he plays on TV.
i think America is far more centrist than they let on.
What I have seen in business for decades there is little reward for charting a stable course in the middle. Most companies as well as our political system would rather swing the pendulum to it max ordinance left to right because you can campaign and pitch plans on the fringes knowing in a matter of time there will be a counter swing of similar magnitude in the other direction. When done well you can achieve balance and progress in most cases it creates gridlock and distrust.
This is what happens when everyone is pitching for the next fiscal quarter or the next election.
a buddy of mine holding a fairly high position at a major tech company spent 5 years in Beijing. He described it as the most capitalistic place he has ever worked.
yes the governments strangle hold on the people is awful and the oppression in the rural areas is criminal. But in the economic development zones they have adapted a western capitalistic society with a long term vision. Everything is 10/20/50 year plans. We don’t know what the hell we are actually doing next month never mind next year or next decade
I don't entirely agree or disagree. Some years ago I read a book on the liberal mindset. The author felt the most liberals believed only about 10 percent of what came out of their mouths, but felt they had to go along with the "party line" to remain in power/relevant. Problem is, say Nancy Pelosi doesn't really want to raise taxes (I don't believe that for an instant) she will do whatever it takes to remain in power. The republicans are no different. The only distinction for me is which side of the 2nd they fall on. The survival of our Republic hinges on the BOR remaining intact and that hinges on the 2nd.

Same in Japan. Unfortunately, we cannot see past next quarter's profit prediction. I dealt with beancounters during my second career. They live for today. In their world tis better to spend 50K monthly on logistics rather than 250K in one month for the entire year. Can't have a bad month.
