You live in Sterling? I lived in Clinton 1996 - 2001.... That's one suck-ass commute you have in good weather! I commuted to 128 in Waltham. That sucked worse every year. You are in Pmclaine land. We all need to get together for a beer! McCameron is right nearby, too.

Were you there for the late 1996/early 1997 blizzard? That was real snow. But I had a Land Rover Defender. Was at work on time. The only one in the whole building. But I was there!

Sirhr
Screw that area for commuting. Everytime I'm back there, there's some reason for the traffic to screwed up. Boston, Nashua, Merrimac, Hanscom; they all suck driving to or from. People say SoCal traffic sucks, and it does, but those northeast, winding, former horse trails that are now highways...suck.

Meanwhile in SW Michigan, we're dealing with the usual treacherous early-winter snowfall:

Haven't even plugged in the block heater yet this season. I'm not sure of our snowfall total this winter, but it's in the low single digits (inches, not feet). My oldest son is pissed.

I want to see snow in texas i heard its worse than a shit show
We get snow here in north Texas once every 5 years or so. If it’s been cold so it sticks and we get 1-2” of snow you might as well just shut down the entire area. Set up a camera at every intersection at it will be like watching America’s Funniest Home Videos all day long.

There was a time, many years ago, when we were ice-fishing on a 3 day weekend. Whilst out in the mountains of B.C. there was a cold-snap. Went down as low as -48 on the thermometer. Actually had to light a controlled fire (in a steel 5-gallon oil can) underneath the engine block and baby/maintain that for a few hours. Sleeping bags draped over the hood, just to hold in some of the heat.

I've driven in Canada Winter's all my life. Been off the road a time or two due to one reason or another. Out of all that though, I've only ever been blown off the road by the wind, once. Makes for interesting times.

Drove 2 hours on a closed highway in my '80 Monte Carlo. I found it interesting that there was nobody on the highway at all, though things did get dicey/washy a time or two. It wasn't until I reached my destination where I came upon the RCMP road-block preventing travel. I just waved and continued on into town.

I thought it was rather comical though, the line-up of 4x4's, highway tractors, big/bad equipment and whantot,,, and then there comes me in my 2-door sedan with speakers sticking up outta the trunk just nonchalantly sauntering by....

My kids would be overjoyed if we got a solid snowstorm right now. And as for myself, well, it's not like it would screw with any travel plans at this point.

I think the last time I moved snow was sometime in the spring of 2019. We got accumulation twice last winter; both came after relatively warm spells, and I've (maybe) learned my lesson about trying to plow the gravel portions of the driveways if the ground isn't yet frozen solid. But I've got front and rear blades on the tractor if/when needed. There is still another 3-4 months left on what has traditionally been our winter season.

Yep there you go. Teach those people how they need to do everything. You know, the way they do it back home.

My “home” is Wyoming. I live here and my business is here. I pay taxes here. I have a vested interest on what goes on here as it affects me directly. It affects my physical safety. Forgive me if I have little patience for a “can’t do” attitude and respect for those at the Coquihalla Highway in Canada.

Below is today's laughable example of snow tomfoolery here. Who’s idea was it to move wind turbine blade in this weather??

Wonder how this winter will go with all Gordo's budget cuts. I want to say I 80 is a train wreck, truck wreck really, legendary pile ups. I hate truckers in snow.

It is not going to be good and I feel for those commuting between Laramie and Cheyenne.

Thinking out loud: Isn’t there some federal jurisdiction and responsibility over interstates? Is Wyoming doing enough to get federal assistance with that highway? 🤔

I have been told the western section was originally slated to run further south but some nimrod wanted it to run near scenic Elk Mountain. Hence the horrendous conditions in the winter.

The wind just west of Rawlins, near the truck stop Little America will blow the freight trains off the track
Seen it many times.

Some folks purport that the warnings are ignored (light load restrictions etc.) and penalties not stiff enough. Any thoughts?

I also heard some suggest some sort of pace-car system for slippery conditions to keep traffic moving but at safe speeds. Could the benefit to our economy offset the cost? 🤔
