Got my new action yesterday from Big Horn. Thought I would post some pictures of it. Man is this thing sweet! AJ really makes one nice action. The design and all the little extra, really make this a nice peace. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but he has coated the bolt and bolt face with NP3 Plus by Robar. This has to be one of the smoothest I have ever felt. I am sure this will be a shooter. Its a wsm bolt face for a 7SAUM AI that I am going to try. Just waiting on the barrel. I hate waiting.

First off I wanted to thank AJ. I was able to spend two days with him at his shop. Asking question after question, and him showing me all around the shop. Even got to talk with Ray Dog from Thunderbeast arms , and see how he made my 30p-1. Can't wait for that can to show up. AJ even loaded up 400 rounds or so and took me out P-dog shooting one evening. His 20 tack was a laser. That gun can shoot. Can't say enough nice things about what a great guys he is, and the wealth of knowledge he has.

Well finally got my barrel after 6 months. This is not the finished product, but it is close. Was able to get a few rounds down it. Its a 7saum AI. I will give you guys a range report with a video in the near future.

i have one of these actions as well. i thought it was a Savage bolthead when i first got it...but i took one out of one of my Savage's and it definitely is NOT a Savage piece. my action is now at GAP being built so we will see how it shoots.

I ordered it back in December. It took a little longer because he was trying to figure out who to have do the coating. AJ said he is doing another run of them now. Not sure what the time frame is, but said it would be shorter.

Well since I already have the 7wsm. "And Love it" Thought I would try something new. Love shooting those Berger 180's, so wanted to stay with the 7mm. Going to see if I can get the 180's over 3000fps on less powder then the 7wsm, with that new Nosler brass.

Yes it has a floating bolt head.

Just got off the phone with AJ at Big Horn. Said 6 weeks for the action, maybe sooner. Yes, you can change out the bolt head. The action is all standard expect for the bolt handle. The finish machine work on this is top notch. Very impressive. Frank here has been using the Big Horn on a few of his videos. Here is the Big Horn in Action

That is such an excellent action. Smooth as butta and vaultlike. I've got mine screwed to a Pacnor in .308 and its well under .5 to 400 so far in load development. Can't say enough good things about AJ and Buckhorn.

AJ's action is one of the smoothest I have felt, and the details of the design and components are second to none. I had mine in hand in 3 weeks.

I am very happy with it.

Yes, It is smoother with the coating. I have been running one for the last 7 months. I love this thing. It is very smooth. I just got my bolt back from AJ. He had the NP3 coating put on it. It is smoother than it used to be for sure. AJ is a great guy and i promise you that he stands behind his product. I can't think of one thing that i would change about this action, it is very nice. The machine work is top notch. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

That bolt handle is tig welded on there all the way around. It ain't coming off. It is the best job of welding i have ever seen. Almost looks as if it were a one piece bolt. Sure it would be nice if it were one piece, but it is very good as it is.

The action screw spacing is the same. I can't remember exactly without measuring but i think the barrel threads are about .200-.300 longer (thus the recoil lug is moved forward). The bolt handle is moved rearward about .100. The rear tang is also thicker for added stiffness. It will fit in a Remington inlet with a few mods.

Thanks. Magazine options are a concern too. I am mostly a hunter and prefer a standard magazine setup or may an HS Precision DBM, but am not big on the tactical type magazines...

The HS will probably work. It was designed for AI type mags. The action has no feed rails so you will have to use some type of DBM. Im sure it would be an easy mod for any type of magazine.

Looks like a savage and a Remmy action had a love child to me. Looks like the best of both worlds. (except no interchangable barrel option)

Thanks man. I am sure it will shoot lights out. It will be sweet having a custom action with that floating bolt head. I think its the best of both worlds.
Some of you guys are asking about the bottom inlet. Here it is next to my 7wsm short action that GAP did for me.

Just noticed this was already answered. Guess I should finish reading the entire post before giving out info.

Love the action I have settled on getting one for my custom build. How much is AJ charging for the NP3?

i wonder if you could add that like that rem/savage kit thats available for 700 to add a barrel nut? is it the receiver or the barrel thats different between the two platforms and allows the use of a nut?

good looking action though, cant wait to see the build
