A few pictures of the largest Prairie Rattler I have ever killed.

Found him this morning while I was Prairie Dog hunting.

The guns in the pictures are a Remington 700 SPS Tactical and a Glock 19. They give an idea of how large the snake was.

I hate those things! My hearing is so bad I can't hear them rattle any more.
Are Prairie Rattlers lighter in color than, say, the Eastern Diamondback?
I saw a rattler much bigger than that one in TX while PD shooting. Not sure if it was a Prairie or Diamondback. It had an entire PD about 3/4 swallowed.

Yeah! He was all coiled up and I missed his head with the first shot and blew that hole in the middle of him. Would have made an awesome skin.

Did you eat it? Rattlesnake is the BEST! Cut into sections and butter the pieces up and season with your favorite seasonings. Wrap in foil and throw on the grill or in the oven for about 20min.

Thats big for a prairie rattler. What makes that snake look so good is it's DEAD!! Good and dead. We have diamondbacks and prairie rattlers both and they all will make you hurt yourself. Good job!

Are you worried about all the Pdogs he killed too? I doubt they were a threat....

    Re: Big Prairie Rattler

I always found rattlesnake too chewy.
The taste wasn't bad, but too darn chewy for me.
The Diamond Backs on my buddy's ranch in West Texas are big enough the belly looks like a gator. The belly plates clank as they crawl. Instead of rattling when they shake their tails, they go "ding-dong"...
Oh, excuse me, don't get me started.
