Re: Big stinky

Looks like that pig got hit by a truck on a dirt road. how far did you have to drag him. that one has a good head for euro mount. Most of the ones we get are big long nose rooters

Re: Big stinky

He looks like he got run over because we tripple tapped him. Three shooters... one, two, three... one ear shot and two body shots. One 270 and 2 308s. It was hilarious. I am the shooter in the picture. We're in West Texas where there's good elevation changes... hunting from 300 feet above the landscape... tons of fun. He's called Big Stinky because there is no way in hell you would have ever processed this hog... he stunk so bad it was unbelievable.

Re: Big stinky

We shot a Catalina Ram once. We tried everything to cook and eat that meat.. Still tased like someone pissed on it. My friend shot it with a bow. He hi him in the horn which really pissed him off. He started bucking and charged my boss, who only had a .22 semi auto. It took 7 shots to bring him down. Also got his girfriend with 3 shots. She did not taste too bad smoked.

Re: Big stinky

For his size his tusks were pretty small. They were there, but not sticking out much. We watched him for 3 days after that and no yotes would touch him. Guess they don't like the stink either.

Response to Q on the 270wms: I have a 300 wsm and 270 wsm (270 a blind gun and the other a big 300 heavy custom Clay Spencer I bought off CANAVAR here on the hide). The 270wsm tikka shoots really flat to 400 and is a slayer. It does amazingly well out to 800 on steel and has performed really well on game. I wish there was a better selection of bullets for the 270, but the 135 SMKs are extremely accurate; have had mixed results bullet performance-wise on game. Shot a doe on this same trip with the 270 at 300 yards; hit her double lung and got no pass through. Sounded like a sledge hammer on a bass drum. Her insides were vaporized so it seems the bullet bounced around. Only ran 30-40 yards but no blood trail, but don't like the lack of a through and through. Can't seem to justify building a 7wsm for the same purpose of the 270, but might at some point. I shot this hog behind the ear so bullet performance was not relevant. The tikka is shocking for a factory gun. Running an IOR 10-42 FFP MIL/MIL on it.

Re: Big stinky

Shocking in that it shoots like the GAP and other custom guns that we shoot. It shoots lights out consistently. At 500 it is consistent clovers. We don't measure groups a lot because I think that is silly, but on an eight inch piece of steel it consistently smashes. I shoot to know a hunting gun can hit... am not that concerned with printing paper.

Re: Big stinky

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Just bought a 2nd hand Sako 451 to build a .260Rem on. Supposedly they come out the other side of the same factory, so it's good to know they shoot so well. Mine will be a hunting gun as well.

Thanks,

Neil
