Has anyone else running a 6.5 PRC in an Origin and it not feeding? I'm using the MDT mags with no binder plate and factory 6.5 Hornady 147 GR. The tip gets caught on the feed ramp.

Bighorn Origin not feeding PRC

Running mine in a BDL without issue. There's some videos on tuning the mags, I'd assume you have to adjust the feed lips to set the larger cartridge at the right height.
Notch the feed ramp then.
Did you open up the mags for magnum cartridges?
That could possibly help.
The Origin actions are already notched to accept longer COAL cartridges like the PRC and the feed lips are already cut for magnum cartridges in a BDL.
If you're having feeding issues, first make sure that your rounds are seating in the magazine (shouldn't be an issue with the 2.955" COAL for Hornady), then make sure the magazine is sitting in the magazine well properly. The last thing to check is that the rounds are being directed to the center of the magazine by the follower with the feed lip geometry. If they're not being pointed to the middle, present the front of the round slightly lower and more centered by tweaking the front of the magazines feed lips inward.
If it all fails, let us know and we'll work through it with you individually. Thank you - Ray

Are these 300wsm mags or 308? If 308, bend lips out. You'll want the front of lips wider than rear. You want rear of lips wide enough for top rd to overlap bottom 1/4 of bolt face. If rear feed lips are too wide, top rd will sit too high and empty case being ejected will get pinched by top rd and ejection port. When I get home I can measure my 300wsm feed lips and let you know there distance from each other.
As others suggested with the PRC, you should use 300WSM magazines...308 will work, but may have issues like yours. Opening up the feed lips will help too.
I had this issue with a factory rifle i bought, it came with a 308 mag instead of the 300WSM for 6.5PRC. mentioned it to the manufacturer and they said they'd look into it...sent pictures to show the differences too...never got a reply.
As far as I know, MDT doesn't make a WSM specific magazine.
Accurate Mag makes a WSM specific magazine that does not have a binder plate. This magazine has shown the most success from what we have seen with the PRC.
MDT has a LOT of options and solutions for our industry as you all know. Seeing a WSM magazine in the future from them would be a fantastic addition to their already impressive list of options.

If the bullet tip is getting caught on the feed ramp, then you either run a mag with a binder plate or notch the feed ramp.
doubt you're gonna run a 6.5PRC in a mag without a binder plate. there's a reason the Accurate WSM mags are only available without them
feed lips meant for a 308 dont match the profile of those meant for a saum/prc case
Im interested in that measurement just for giggles... my tl3 runs them pretty good though not always perfect(accurate wsm mag that ive bent the rear feed lips in slightly) I did just put together a origin for a buddy and slapped a new accurate wsm mag in and feeds perfect.
Do you have a picture of the Origin in a Chassis from the vantage point of the mag well? My Rem 700 is notched but overhangs the mag well a bunch, my Deviant overhangs like half a millimeter. I was about to pull the trigger on a Origin build but I don't want issues with feeding from a magazine like the ARC. Is the TL3 with AICS magazine cut different dimensions from the Origin?

The Origin is cut to accept standard length BDL's and AICS magazines so it's a little different than the AICS specific TL3 cut.
If you have feeding issues (with ANY action) they're most likely related to magazine geometry. Call that bias if you want, but magazines are generally either stamped metal or molded plastic. Those processes are far less accurate than machining is so there will be variance from one to the next. The magazines can always be modified to work with the action you're using. If you have issues, don't assume it's the action first, try making adjustments to other products to fit your specific setup.

Yea, magazines are definitely finicky but as a reloader I like the option of being able to load to the max length of the magazine without the plates and even on the defiance with the small overhang, the tip of the bullet can get wedged between the top of the magazine and the bottom of the action. It seems like the only way to do that is if there is 0 overhang between the action and the bottom metal.
I'd have to agree with Ray. This does not detract from the quality of the magazines that are being made today, but it's just that the tolerances of the processes used are wider than those typically held during precision machining.

Exactly!! Its a stock inlet and/or magazine feed lip issue for sure.
Thanks for this, you just helped me figure out why some of my 6.5PRC cases weren't ejecting properly. Gotta love the Hide!
