My $0.02... if you're shooting tactical comps then it's nice to have the tripod be able to do double duty as either shooting platform, or rear tripod support, or for spotting. To me that means sturdy tripod for holding the rifle, tall enough to stand and spot with binos, and tall enough to get rear tripod support on taller barricades. For barricade use you want the tripod itself to be tall, not just a center column. I'd prefer a tripod that's 58-60" tall with no center column. Short list is Fiesol 3372 with a RRS TA-U-LC or a used Gitzo 3 series (1325, 3530, 3531 or a 4 section variant) with a RRS TA-3 leveling base. Then put a arca plate on your rifle.
I'm running a Gitzo GT3531 with RRS TA-3 base, mount the rifle to it, use it for rear support, and use my Swaro 15x56 bions on it. Pack it along at every match. Feisol setup is a bit lighter but still very sturdy. I know one of my buddies ran it elk hunting and packed it around. If you were willing to give up height in exchange for even lighter weight, the Feisol 3342 is pretty slick. You'll be bending over to spot with the binos though.
Of course the gold standard is a RRS 3 series tripod and TA-3 leveling base.
