Bipod heights

Hi,

What would be the reason to own different height bipods?

I have a Harris bipod from Larue which allows me to quickly connect to a rail system. It is the 6 to 9 inch version. I set it at 6 inches when shooting from the bench and usually 9 inches when shooting prone.

It there a good reason why I should also purchase a 9 to 13 in version?

Your thoughts please.

i have a 9-13 and never use it...i have (3) 6-9's and they get alot of use


6-9 works good for standard prone or bench shooting

9-13 works alittle better for hunting or shooting where height might help with grass, etc.

Another reason is bigger guys don't have to crane their necks as much on a 9-13. At least I found that to be my case

If all you're doing is shooting from benches and groomed ranges, then you're fine with the 6-9 inch version. But if you foresee yourself shooting in field type environments you will want another option such as a tripod or at least a taller bipod and a good sling for shooting in the kneeling.

It doesn't take very tall grass to swallow up a 9" Harris and leave you shooting from a different less stable position. Plan accordingly.

Atlas w/ leg extension to gain height or *gasp* use a sling.

Or, shooting sticks.

After using the Atlas v8 I can't fathom going back to a Harris.

I have the 9" and it is usually too tall but can be fixed by using two rear bags. I will probably buy the 6" pretty soon.

I use a 6-9" on my heavy rifle to target shooting, then I keep a 13 1/2" to 27 on my hunting ar. Great to sit against a tree. Downside, on its lowest setting it is difficult to shoot prone.
