bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

Probably not so much of an accuracy thing as a convenience thing.

A bipod is attached and integral. As Rubicon says, the bipod can be loaded, which (if done consistently) is a good thing. But if you sit on bags, you can 'nestle' your forend in with each shot, but it's a PITA.

My preference would be front (quality) bipod and rear bag.

Cheers,

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

^^^ What he said. Only one of my rifles has a bipod, when I take the other 2 to the range and set them up on bags it is a pain in between shots. Refluffing your bag up to where it was every shot gets old real fast.

They also don't enteract with the rifle the way tactical shooters do. They touch the trigger only usually.

I grew up shooting off the bench with a front bag. It is a very accurate way to sight in, shoot at targets, etc.

Since I have gotten off the bench and on the ground, practice the fundamentals, I have gotten very accurate. As accurate as I ever was off the bench with a bag.

For bench shooting, a front and rear bag is probably the best. For Prone, a bipod is probably better

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

My findings are the same as T2CH's. My bipods seem to hop on our benches, since it's hard to load them on a super smooth PVC bench top. My groups are smaller when I use front bags on the bench, and a rear bag.

But...when I shoot prone..I do better with the bipod. It's much easier to stay behind the rifle, load the bipod, and let the rifle recoil straight back..no bipod hop, and tiny groups.

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

Everytime I take a gun hunting I cant seem to find my sandbag when the coyote steps out. My bipod is 36 inches long so I can shoot steady from my double bull chair. If I don't use it then I take out the bog pod. In the midwest shooting prone is about impossible in waist high grass.

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

it is really two different animals to tame. Ive shot Fclass (free recoil off bags) and off a bipod. It all depends on your stock. I wouldnt shoot a light gun off the bags. Just my opinion, if you are going to shoot the majority off a bipod, just stick with it. I wouldnt interchange them regularly. It takes a lot of time and practice to get them shooting off of either one. But if you have an fclass stock or even adapters to shoot off bags then thats something differnt. But as far as one being more accurate, we call it "benchrest" for a reason. As stated above, you woundnt see a 6ppc with a bipod.

Re: bipod vs. bags is one more accurate?

the original question isn't which one works better for tactical situations or hunting or is easier to carry around-simply "which one is more accurate"...... If benchrest guys could get better groups with a bipod, they would use a bipod.

I agree with all other comments- a bipod is much handier in the field,etc....
