Since Black Hills "declassified" the 5.56mm 77OTM (Mk262 mod1) and allowed its commercial sale, I get the question about the difference between 223 and 5.56mm quite often.

Black Hills no longer loads different bullets for the 77gr in 223/556, EVERYTHING is the 77gr Sierra SMK with cannelure(as used in the Mk262 mod1). That settles the bullet question.

Here are the listed specs as given out today by Black Hills:

223 2750fps from a 24" barrel
556 2750fps from a 20" barrel

Just remember not to shoot 556 ammo out of a 223 chamber.

Black Hills NEW 5.56 77gr OTM (Mk 262 mod1)
Black Hills NEW 223 77gr SMK
Black Hills REMANUFACTURED 223 77gr SMK

BTW, Black Hills now also offers the 69 Sierra in 556 as well.

I just picked up some Black Hills 5.56 77gr OTM from Midway. I didn't see your cheaper prices until after the fact Steve

Next time I'll get it from you guys. I'm looking forward to trying it out in my AR. It's 18" 1:7, should work pretty well.
