Ok so I have a small cannon I made years ago. it shoots large glass marbles or any thing else that size. this cannon is way over built for my safety. the wall thickness on the bore is 3/4"..any ways getting to the point here finding black powder is getting to be an extremely hard thing in my neck of the woods if I want some I have t drive almost an hour and a half. Ordering is a hassle
I ordered enough supply's to make 30 lbs of black powder. I usually only go through about 2lbs a year with my cannon it stays at my stone shop and is mainly used for stress relief and a good laugh. Who does not have a blast setting off a cannon..
Does any one have any experience with making black powder. I have 25 lbs of 99+ pure kno3, 3lbs of sulfur and 4 lbs of willow charcoal. I already have a ball mill and lead balls for mixing this stuff up. I'm going to go with a 75%kno3 10%sulfer and 15% willow charcoal.
oddly enough the charcoal was the hardest and most expensive thing on the list at $10 a lb
If this works out I wont have to buy black powder for a long time. and 30lbs will have only set me back $110 I have the ability to mill it 100yards from any structure and I will only be milling 10oz at a time.. obviously I will test the powder before it makes it into the cannon. if this does not work out I may just retire my cannon till things get better.
