I think is the USMC scalable model with side plates.

Didn't they go out of business though? We considered them

Re: Blackhawk Plate Carrier

I have a similar blackhawk cutaway carrier, a discontinued model which only carries plates. Its ok, but could support smaller plates (9.5 x 12) better. If your using XL plates you should be good.

Re: Blackhawk Plate Carrier

I'd look for a Eagle USMC with the built in III. If you add up what you would pay for the kevlar insert it's well worth it. I think I paid $390 for mine and added ESAPI's for not much more. I have less that $1k in mine with pouches and 4 ESAPI's.

Re: Blackhawk Plate Carrier

I have not been impressed with BH over the years and I have seen too many of their products fail in the field due to poor workmanship and materials. This was not true in the early days when their products were produced in the US and made from Cordura. I have used Eagle since 1989 and they have historically made great products. They have since been sold and appear to be having issues outside of poor quality from their Dominican Republic produced items.

Take a look at TYR Tactical. They are US made and their production times are quick unlike Eagle. I had an opportunity to visit their shop and spent a great deal of time looking at and talking about their products. I am currently running their PICO Assaulters Plate Carrier and it is incredibly comfortable and modular depending on your needs. I can use it low profile or I have an extra cummerbund which allows more side protection. In addition to their carrier, I also switched to their armored Brokos Belt to wear with my PICO. I previously utilized the Crye Blast Belt but believe the Brokos is more comfortable and I like the design better. I ran the Crye for 5 years so have some time in it for comparison.
