From a mechanical stand point, i dont trust the Blaser action.
I've never shot one, but the action lock up scares me. Theres not a whole hell of alot holding the bolt forward in the receiver.
It may be incredibly safe, I dont know, but from my stand point, i dont trust it

I did handle one in a gun shop and hated it.
I would go whit GAP (maybe not m40). There is lots of other to choose from!
If i would go whit factory gun then Trg for sure. Anything else but Blaser.

I have a Blaser and 2 GAP rifles. The Blaser isn't for everyone, but it fits me great! One of the most comfortable gun to get behind for me. My Blaser will outshoot my Gap .223 but my GAP 308 is just as accurate as the Blaser. The Blaser action is very fast to work. Straight pull back then straight forward. The one problem with the Blasers are the mags. I think they are about $200 each right now. The Blaser is very fast and easy to change the barrel, but the barrels are about $1500 each. Fun to shoot I give it to the Blaser, but if my life depended on a gun, it would be my GAP. The Blaser is very well made, but doesn't feel like it could take a fall off a roof like the GAP does.

The Blaser has had a couple failure of the collet locking system causing the bolt to come flying back in the f ace of the shooter. I am currently searching for the thread...it was foreign, so the search might take a bit. Stand by...

He is obviously not prudent in his reloading, but the fact that the action ejected the bolt into his face and arm scares me a bit. He is obviously not prudent in his reloading, but the fact that the action ejected the bolt into his face and arm scares me a bit. Never shot the Blaser 2, so I won't comment on it other than it looks like a lot of places on the rifle can get hung up on brush if you ever intend on carrying it into the bush hunting.
I carried the M40A1 for over 5 years. It is a rifle that can take a full beating and still keep going. If you are looking for a rifle that has a long and honored history behind it and is one hell of a shooter, then I suggest you get that one.
If you're looking for a rifle that is really versatile, then I would suggest neither and go with something along the lines of the GAP Gladius. The 24" barrel on an M40 can be a pain in thick brush, and we always envied shooters with detachable box magazines.

I've shot one and they're accurate and fully adjustable.
Biggest problem I see is, unless you go over complelty to this action, you'd have an 'odd ball' which does not match any other 'regular' bolt gun you've trained/practiced with (just to be different) - in a hurry will you remember which is which??

PS eveyone I know who's ever owned one has sold it and gone back to 'normal' bolt actions, either through lack of confidence or for the reason I gave above. T

My dept has a couple Blasers, I didn't care for them and picked the 700 PSS instead. They do shoot very well but the more conventional setup worked better for me. I would go with the GAP over a Blaser.

I have no time behind a Blaser other than playing with one in a local gun store. If I had to have a factory rifle that is in the class of the Blaser Id get a TRG or an AI and youd get a better, more proven rifle with plenty of accuracy and normal muscle memory. I have a 10/22 that I have set up as a trainer and after Ive been shooting my bolt gun for a while and go back to the 22 I find myself reaching to cycle the bolt on the 22 at first. I think I would end up trying to lift the handle on the Blaser too often and it would piss me off.

I would recomend finding a Blazer and shooting it first. I only say this b/c I have had some time behind one and it was the most difficult rifle / stock configuration to shoot that I have ever been behind (and I have shot damn near everything at one point or another). I had a hard time with the pistol grip getting comfortable. The action was very awkward (Im sure with time I could get it). The gun was kinda hard to hold in general it has such a irregular shape. Now on the other hand the trigger was very good and it was accurate. I think there are some limitations on scope mounting and eye relief adjustment , I could be wrong on that. Please keep in mind these are just my impressions from a brief shooting session , and I am only recomending for you to find one and shoot it first. You may find it was made for you. Good luck, and enjoy what ever you get.

However, my purchase was so I could use it for teaching in my work, but now my .gov employer has decided we don't really need to let our people shoot real guns, that a powerpoint will suffice. Go figure.
So anyway, I will most likely be selling mine, since my .308 fav is a TRG. I don't have anywhere around here further than 400 yards, so it's kind of a waste to shoot such a cartridge at such a short range. Otherwise, I would keep it in a heartbeat.

Both sound good - tough choice. I can't comment on the GAP but I do own a Blaser LRS with multiple barrels. This is going to sound like an AA group meeting:
I made the mistake of purchasing one in .22-250 (of all things) that was collecting dust at a local gun store. I took it to the range the next day and shot the smallest five shot group of my life. Tried different loads and the worst 5-shot group was .4" @ 100yard ... I got hooked. I since purchased a 6.5x55, .308 and .223 LRS barrels and they all shoot phenomenally. Every one shoots 1/2" or better at 200 yards - I know it sounds ridiculous. Most accurate out of the box gun I have ever shot. Takes all the fun out of load development.
Barrel/caliber change is about 60-90 seconds. Zero never moves.
The gun breaks down and fits into a case smaller than my 16" AR15 CQB rifle.
Lots of fun to shoot. If you get an LRS in .308 save your pennies for a .223 barrel. Great fun, great for practice. Action is very fast ... almost semi-auto fast.
On second thought ... don't do it you will wind up a Blaser addict like everyone else that buys one and somehow thinks its great to spend $200 on a magazine or $1,500 for a new barrel ...sick.
