a buddy of mine must have had a miscue on a reload or a barrel obstruction in his tikka deerhunter and it went boom in a bad way a few months back.

stock split, the back end of the bolt shot off into his face, bolt release went MIA, still can't get the bolt open.

i got a chance to look at it today, doesn't look as if the barrel is split, or for that matter the receiver. don't know what the bolt or inerds look like, again the bolt is stick stuck shut

is there anything he or anyone could do with this thing or after something like this just make it a paperweight?

(these are the only details i have)

If it were mine, it would be an expensive learning too for new shooters. Hard to tell what happened to the receiver. Even if you had everything taken apart and built again I'm not sure I even trust magnafluxing for tiny cracks.

I would remove the barrel, clean and closely inspect the parts.
Magnaflux if you think anything is cracked.

Look at the bolt lugs and mating area in the receiver. Make sure the receiver is still straight and not warped or sprung.

Pictures would be interesting, as post-kaboom autopsies can be quite educational.

Otherwise, scrap it - the costs of verifying that it is still safe to use and any subsequent rebuild activities are almost certainly greater than the replacement cost.
