No need to hang on to a rope if you have skills. You can surf all day long without one. Although I'd be willing to bet he had a buddy somewhere on that boat, either stuffed in the back storage or something like that ready to spring out. If not, he truly deserves to have his or daddy's boat confiscated. I'll volunteer to take it.

He was riding a skim board on the boat's wake, so basically he was surfing the wake to keep up with the boat.
