I recall reading some info that mentioned fouling in the gun is a bad thing.

The bolt face on my M4 never looked like this, so... Is this a problem I need to look into, or do I just get some solvent and scrub?

Edit: Was trying to do accounting homework and post at the same time, totally thought that was copper in the bolt face for a moment.

A Qtip and some solvent and wipe it on and wait a little and wipe again. It will wipe it right off. It's normal. My rifles have looked like their bolt faces were made of brass some times.

most boltface is a little rough so when you turn the bolt handle on a live round it "files" a little brass. Nothing to worry about one bit, all my bolt actions do it, work just fine and I never cleaned the bolt face after several thousand rounds, not anal enough I guess.
