Anyone ever used Bondo to bed an action? I have heard of it being done but I'm a bit leary of this technique... I'd think Bondo would be too flexible.

Tried it once in a piece of 2x4 just screwing around. You better be jonny on the spot as you have about 3 minutes before it turns to gum.
Not a whole lot of time to get an action sitting in the stock just perfectly.

Bondo's too brittle. I have wondered about the "metal bondo" (can't remember the name) but when it sets up it looks just like metal and it's strong enough to hold screws.
I use Marine-Tex and it works great. Plus you get enough to do 2-3 rifles.

One thing to know about Bondo and other filler type materials.
It's a polyester base system. It's not an epoxy. The chemical resistance isn't very good at all. Hoppes and such is going to play hell with it. It's also porous.
A simple rule:
If it smells sweet avoid. If it smells like a Vietnamese nail salon then it's probably ok.

Devcon Steel is the best stuff I've ever used. The High Wear is even stronger but not easy to find. Devcon makes Titanium and Aluminum putty as well and will work just find.

actually some of the best stuff I've used is Bisonite but that's been long dead at least the good stuff. Devcon steel, the stainless sucks, marine tex, acra glas is ok too..Can get Devcon at NAPA, saves you going to the mall to fight ninji, or just browse brownells site for the slather

Is wax a decent release agent? Someone said use Pam... That didn't work worth a damn. I'm out of that brownells stuff
