Bore cleaning rimfire???

Please direct me to threads discussing rimfire bore cleaning. What I am finding deals with centerfire.


How often should I clean the 22 lr bore??

Should I clean the bore, when testing different ammo, between firing the different brands and/or types of ammo.??

Elsewhere I saw an exhaustive test where they noted the groups tightened after some fouling shots.

There is no easy answer to this question. Much depends on what you want to do with your 22lr. At the TSC matches that we run at CVRPC in Conover NC, extreme accuracy is required, more so than any discipline I know about. Depending on the particular ammo I am using I clean after between 75 and 150 rounds. One particular ammo I use is fantastic and the best ammo I have tried but I can't run past 75 rounds or I notice accuracy fall off. It will settle in after cleaning in just a few rounds...between 5 and 7 rounds. The important thing is that my foulers will still be close enough except on the absolute smallest targets.
Most folks don't need to clean a 22lr more than once in a lifetime, some need to clean it every match. You will have to decide where your type of shooting fits in the cleaning schedule. If you change ammo...clean it then test the new ammo making note of possible fouling shots and how far out they are and noting when it settles down. This way you can rack that many into the dirt after cleaning and you are ready to load up and head off to a match.

Aquatic robotic, try rimfirecentral regarding the cleaning of your .22lr bore. There are many many differing opinions on this subject and none are rite or wrong, it depends what you are after. What you will find is competative shooters never clean there bore with a rod just a bore snake of some sort and seldom use solvents. The chamber in a .22lr has a sharp lip that is not cleaning rod friendly, hence rods do more harm than good. Use a q-tip to clean the chamber if need be. If you have a good bore and use the same ammo there should be no real need to clean the bore other than long term storage.
I know this is not related to your thread but just what I feel is sound advice. Stay away from high velocity ammo and dont even bother with hyper velocity at all costs. A good quality standard velocity ammo with a solid 40 grain round nose will produce the best results in any gun. In .22lr all that is needed is a plain lead lubed bullet, anything copper washed is for the marketing value of it not because it produces results. I guess one could say that if copper wash ment anything the makers of competition ammo would be using it, btw they dont. You do not need to spend a fortune on match ammo to get good results. For non competition fun I would recomend CCI standard velocity, Federal champion sv target or the like.
