Bore diameter of Rem M24 (and 5R)

Hi all, I've found a brand-new M24 bought in Italy in 1990 (when it was possible to sell them to civilians), actual owner told me he never used it (it seems to be really new, stock, painting and bolt are perfect), but I noticed that lands are very "ramped" (I think it's normal for polygonal profile of 5R rifling) and land-to-land dia is over 7.625 mm (about 7.63 mm), while for example in my TRG22 dia is less than 7.620 mm (about 7.615). May anybody measure with a pin gauge (go/don't go) bore dia of his Rem M24? Even if Rem 5R hasn' t the same barrel (but the same rifling) maybe it could be helpful to know its bore dia, too. Maybe it's normal for their particular rifling, but I'd like to know it because in Italy M24 is much more expensive than in the USA.

10 thousandths of one millimeter is a very very very small number. Which I believe a 308 is still considerably larger diameter wise than the 7.62 it's called

7.62 is .30 land-to-land dia
7.82 is .308 groove-to-groove dia

Bore can be anywhere from .299-.300 dia.

Yes, that's the nominal bore dia in a new 308W barrel (seen on 4 and 6 lands rifling - TRG22 and Rem 40XB), but I'm wondering if even in the case of 5R rifling (M24 in particular) it could be the same...

How are you getting a land to land measurement in a 5R? 5R barrels do not have opposing lands and grooves, as such a land is always directly across from a groove, not another land.

It could be difficult to measure groove to groove dia in 5R because they aren t opposite, but to measure bore dia you can insert into muzzle a pass/no pass gauge with known diameter, it will touch every land top...

Only barrel makers would have a set of pin gages extensive enough to measure the bore so I don't think you're going to get your answer here. As long as it is in CIP specifications I wouldn't worry about it. At .3003" diameter you are well into the middle of any specifications I'm aware of.

For me it s ok to use a common gauge to check caliber in the muzzle, just to have an idea of the condition. I always use it when I buy old snipers, expecially WWII rifles.

You could slug it and measure the slug, but why?
