Gunsmithing Bottom Metal Bedding

I just had a couple of 700 stocks inletted and the bottom metal fits and there is no binding on the bolt when tightened. The bottom metal does not come up flush with the surface of the stock and I'm going to bed the bottom metal with marine-tex. It there a common household product that will act as a mold release or do I just need to go get a can of clear shoe polish?

I may or may not have used PAM cooking spray once to help bed a scope base, I would get a can of neutral shoe polish.

Johnson paste floor wax. Less than 6 bucks I believe.
Folks have used hornady one shot case lube.

I just used the Hornady One Shot actually, the results were really good.

I used some scentsy wax once. Too lazy to go to the shop and get my Johnson wax. Worked fine.

Is the bottom metal floorplate style or DBM?

I used neutral shoe polish for the release agent, set the right height with shim washers, and fixed them in place with quick cure Marine Tex. It worked like a champ.
Marine Tex is a great product. My smith uses it exclusively for stock bedding.

Floor wax, shoe polish, waterproofing wax, silicone oil, all should work if you do a good job prepping and applying. Best bet if you're using an around the house type product is to do a test piece of scrap metal and a glob of epoxy, see if it comes right off.
