So after getting my first stamp in June of this year (10.5", .223 PWS), I bought a suppressor today. After a bunch of research, I called a local NFA dealer and asked if he had a SWR SpecWar 762 in stock, and much to my surprise he said he did. I made the trip over and got the paperwork done that will go in the mail on Monday. It comes with a Trifecta flash hider for my 308 AR, but I've got to find out which brake/flash hider to put on my .223 shorty. From the looks of it, I've got a LONG while to decide, order, and get it put on the rifle.

Quick questions: 1.) Is it safe to assume that GA Precision threaded my barrel concentric to the bore and I can just screw off the SureFire brake and install the Trifecta flash hider, or should I take the rifle to a 'smith to double check the threads and do the install? 2.) Same question regarding the PWS.

Excited for my first muffler purchase. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming (while the forever long NFA wait continues).

Forever long would be an under statement now. Yes, it would be safe to say that GAP did the threading correctly but the trifecta flash hider, I don't know. If you have a question about GAP, just call them but they do over top notch work.

A couple of items here you should think about...If I am not mistaken a Surefire install has the barrel turned down to match up the brake to the barrel so it will have a little different barrel profile at the end. Can you simply screw it off - well, not really without some elbow grease and may be some heat applied. I would take it to a smith to get the brake removed and have them put on the new brake. You could probably do it all yourself but it comes down to your level of comfort on wrenching your GAP. Then after that, take down the rifle to the local dealer and put on the suppressor and take some pictures because that will be the last time you see the two together for a long time.

Congrats on the new purchase! You should have submitted it through the new electronic process. A number of guys over on arfcom have reported getting their tax stamp back in as little as three months.

While you are at it get an extra brake for your .223 and you can run the specwar 7.62 on your .223 no problem, obviously it won't be as effecient as a .223/5.56 specwar but its better than nothing until you order your next can. Out of curiousity what did you pay for your specwar?

I have full intentions of running this can on the 223. I'm not sure which brakes/flash hiders are actually out there. I've seen single chamber brakes on various sites for sale, I see Silencerco advertises a 3 chamber brake, but that's the only place I've seen them (and their out of stock...and from reading the forums they have been for a while), there is the Trifecta flash hider available in a few places, and lastly there is a rather homely looking A2 flash hider. Of these, I like the looks of the three chamber brake the best, but finding one is looking to be a problem. I'd also like to find a 762 brake instead of the Trifecta flash hider.

On the price....I got took at $895 (full retail). I did online price shopping ahead of time and knew that was a high price, but after buying a can online for ~$720 and paying the dealer's transfer fee AND having a Form 3 done (and waiting.......), I figured this was as good as it was gonna get.

Yeah thats understandable, I have a local source for the specwar mounts and Ill ask and let you know if they have them. Also just saw this posted and thought you might enjoy it.

Actually, from the testing by Silencer Shop and SWR, it appears that the Specwar 762 is just as quiet or 1db quieter on a 5.56 host than the Specwar556. Great news to me since mine will mostly reside on an 11.5" sbr.

obviously it won't be as effecient as a .223/5.56 specwar

sawgunner2001, yes, you did pay a higher than normal price but you won't have to wait 3 months for the form 3 transfer like I did. Time certainly=money....

I just contacted Silencer Co. yesterday to ask about the 5.56 mounts, and was told the single-chamber design was a prototype and all Specwar muzzle brake mounts are 3 chamber brakes. You just need to wait for more to come in stock somewhere.

I think you will be most pleased with the purchase & I can't wait to get mine next fall....

The tests I saw showed the specwar 5.56 1-2db quieter, that combined with the 5.56 being 2.7" shorter and 4.5oz lighter, I think it warrants a dedicated 5.56 can but the 7.62 specwar does do a good job if you plan to buy just one can that would be my choice for sure.

Specwar762 Review
Here is one of the videos I found, towards the end they compare the 556 and 762 cans on a 556 host. Either way, a 1-2 db difference is only meaningful on paper and will likely be imperceptible to our ears. It is great to see just how closely the two suppressors test on 556 host guns, and I completely agree that the 762 is a nice multi-caliber can, if you can choose just one.

Kamikaze, you are very right that there is a decent weight and lenght penalty for the 762, I had forgotten that tidbit.

Since I can't figure out how to hyperlink, this is what you get....

If/when I'm able to find muzzle devices in stock, should I get a brake or flash hider for a 20" heavy barrel 556 cal AR? I figured since I'll be running this can on a 20" 308 AR and my 10.5" 556 AR, I might as well thread my 20" 556 AR and use it there too.

I'd take that chatter with a grain of salt. Unless it is a consistent pace, I wouldn't put much stock in what arfcom says.

its already been confirmed by several people that the approved Form 1's submitted on the efile were part of a small test group of forms. its an anomaly, and not the new normal.

I'm not sure my dealer was able to use E-Forms...or he didn't know how. It seems to me that if that were an option, that it would have been a no-brainer to do that. He just filled out a standard Form 4, Certificate of Compliance, photocopied my trust, and put it all in the mail with a $200 check.

Also, I was able to find muzzle devices at Bud's Gun Shop. Ended up ordering 2x 5.56 muzzle brakes and 1x 7.62 muzzle brake. I'll have a spare 7.62 Trifecta flash hider. I suppose that's an excuse to put a 300 BLK upper together :)

I also received an email from American Reaper Arms alerting me that they had both 5.56 and 7.62 muzzle brakes in stock at respectable prices. I didn't get this email until after I had already ordered from Bud's, though.

No chance...3 months?!?! Can anybody attest to this? If this is true I'm buying 3 today.

Is this the form Applications - eForm 4473 - Download | ATF

Looks like it was a test group. It wont be faster then the paper method at this point in time.
