I shoot mine often this time of year.Shot great about 14 years ago the last time I messed with it. I was just thinking about ordering a cheap press and new string and cable set up. I gots ta pump up dem bow kill numbers. It's in the hundreds but mostly fish with my recurve.
In that case Id put a fresh set on, break it in with 100 arrows and then get to dialing the sights in.Shot great about 14 years ago the last time I messed with it. It's been in box in the top of the closet since I got my dog that dies last summer. I was just thinking about ordering a cheap press and new string and cable set up. It's easy. Press required, measure you axle to axle before you start Press down just far enough to get the string and cables off. New string and cables will be optimally twisted. So don't add or take out twists while your changing them. How hard is it to restring that bow? It’s like shoelaces. You know they’re gonna fail but you try to get just one more trip out of them and then you suffer.
Pretty sure thats the majority of shops these days. Likely it isn't worth the liability with what they would make above an ordered string with everyone so sue happy. We have a local archery shop that sits between Tampa and Brandon. Big place, lots of equipment and two different ranges. Really nice looking place.
They will restring your bow and put all kinds of new parts on it. They will not, I repeat, will not make strings in house. If they can't order it, you're out of luck.
They don't get my business or recommendation.
Ya, 300 dollar bow 100 dollar string 50 dollar press. It woukd be about as easy to close it up, put it in the closet and forget about it for another decade or two.On the other hand.... last year I decided to start shooting a bow again. Found the string let go just sitting in the case at some point. Looking into getting it restrung, it would have cost more than half what I paid for the bow. lol Didn't seem like a wise investment for a very outdated model. Instead I just bought a new one.
Western states are big. less likely to get stabbed and robbed in Garden City. 120 the other way.Are you that far from pueblo? I guess I thought you were just downstream a little ways.

You're probably correct.
The shitty part is waiting a month and a half for something that takes ten, maybe fifteen minutes to build and install.
I loved the old shop that Harry ran in Box Elder, SD.
If you went in there during the off hours, he'd take care of your stuff on the spot. That is, if you weren't a dick. If he didn't like you, your shit went to the back of the line.
Nowadays, insurance has way too much say so in the daily operations of most businesses.
Reqdjusring the sights is what I wanted avoid. Lol. I have n3ver done it before. I bought it used and it was already tuned and sighted in for me.
Has to be something in La Junta or somewhere that you might feel safer than Pubes.Western states are big. less likely to get stabbed and robbed in Garden City. 120 the other way.
Bowstrings are not a 15 minute build. Good stable strings need to be built and then stretched at 200+ lbs for at least 24 hours.
$300!? I didn't pay THAT much lol. Of course it was a several year old model, and around 1994-95.Ya, 300 dollar bow...
I don't doubt that's the way it's done now.
It makes total sense in my mind.
When I speak of strings, I'm talking the primary string where the arrow is knocked.
I'm pretty sure that's not the strings in question here.
My bows are so old they still have cables around the wheels and cams.
(People reading this saying, what cables are you talking about?)
With my shoulder problems, shooting a bow is now over a decade in my past.
This is why I shoot an Oneida mostly, don’t need no damn press. Also snap shooting regular compounds doesn’t work well.
I have traditional compounds also, but they suck for serious bow fishing. No reason to have to go full draw multiple hundreds of times over a 12 hour tournament. I shoot almost twice the draw weight most people run bow fishing and don’t have pullouts or distance/depth issuesYou should lead with that in conversation. It makes so much sense!
I started out with bows that have cables.
The picture shows a bow with synthetic cables. Steel hasn't been a thing in 30 years...
Now they use string for everything. That's where a good chunk of the speed comes from. Strings are stronger and lighter than the old steel, and in turn the can lighten the cams, improve efficiency, etc.
My current bow is a few years old, and slings a 400grn arrow at 320fps with only 60 lb draw. Cheating when you only need a couple pins to hit 50 yards and I practice to 100.
You should lead with that in conversation. It makes so much sense!
What freaks me out is the let-off so high you can hang the drawn bow from the string….nah dawg. You twitch and it fires still obviouslyMy newest bow is from 93, so...
It's sat unused for longer than a lot of our members have been alive.
A 300fps arrow was unheard of, even with an overdraw setup.
Overdraw? What in tarnation is that?

If you can’t steadily hold back 50-70 with normal let-off you need to hit the gym. I shot 70 all day(shot a couple hours daily), but how are guys hitting anything with bows they can’t handle?

The earth is a big target lolRemember, no matter how bad you shoot, you'll always hit Something...
Claim 99% lol.I learned on an old Browning compound 70# with about 30-40% letoff.
The first time I shot 50% I kept trying to jump the shot because it didn't feel right.
Then 60%, 65%, 75% and who knows what now. Is it 85-90%?
Claim 99% lol.
Like I said you can draw them and hang them from the string. I’m fine with 30%, or none lolI bet that's a twitchy assed mofo
There’s no time/reason to go full draw on a lot of shots so the Oneida shines in snap shooting for me. Also having one string/cable like a recurve is nice with nothing extra in the way. Some guys call them nut slappers, but who the fuck draws a bow squarely in the center front of their body where that can happen? Retards is who.The Onieda does look cool. If I was still into it id get one. Id be popping off carp. Lol
Been 16 years since I shot a compound. Are Easton A/C/C still cool?
