My wife fell in love with my custom 6.5x47 after shooting it. So I decided to rebuild her savage 11 243. Getting a precision ground recoil lug and barrel nut before bedding the action. Gonna burn this 243 barrel out before putting on a Criterion prefit 24" 1:7.5 twist 6x47 barrel on it. Ordered a ptg dbm,boyds AT-one stock, and kick-eez for it my question is I've heard the at- one has metal dowels in the stock you have to drill through to pillar bed it? Is there any concern with using a mill to drill the holes and the tool catching the dowel and splitting the stock or can it be done easily if I go really slow?

Are you referring to a recoil cross bolt? Some models of their other stocks have this, I can't imagine any embedded hardware that might be present for the adjustable cheek, buttplate or customizable forend /grip would be anywhere near the receiver inlet. I've not heard of any "metal dowels" in these stocks other than for that hardware but I haven't handled one yet. Where'd you get this information?

Was looking around online seeing how people like the at one stock and saw a post about the metal recoil crossbolts. Don't have the stock in hand at the moment so I can't investigate it further
Did you find an answer to this? I will be getting one soon and was wondering about this and if it has pillars installed. No reviews seem to show the inletting...

I ended up ordering one too. It came in the mail super fast! They must be feeding the wood chucks over there the good stuff. :)

Quality seems to be surprisingly good when compared to the other stocks I've gotten from them.
-Inletting is perfectly straight and centered
-Has cross bolts installed around the action area.
- Doesn't come with pillars installed

I just put a Whidden V block in a Boyd pro varmint.
I had to mill right through some crossbars in there.

@Clark looks pretty good!

I wish Whidden v blocks existed for T/C rifles. I just got my hands on venture 30-06 and was surprised by how well it shot out of the box... I was planning to have it be a hunting rifle but when it turned in 5 shot groups of .48"-.62" @100y with $15 pmc ammo on a factory barrel... I might have to do a long range build this thing!
