Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

i have 4 boyds. every one dropped right in. center the safety and pop! its in. dont expect a free floating barrel without some work. they were not meant to free float an action that only has one screw. also to be fair, mine were unfinished drop ins except the tacticool. i like to sand them to fit me

what issues did you have? im just curious as i hear stuff but have never seen whats wrong with them.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

the new CZ version or just the tacticool style? there are 2 or 3 threads with the tacticool in it. you may have to dig a little

The barrel channel was way too tight, had to sand it to open up without forcing it in.The wood was almost 3/16" high at the back of the receiver and 1/8" below the BM,far enough that I needed to countersink the pillar in a press.Had to clean up the paint crap in some of the inletting.

What really pisses me off is;where in the hell do I find some of that lovely mint green paint to touch up where I sanded?

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

atone, with the kidd setup, do you have more than one action screw? my deal is a built a 10/22 a while back. the barrel didnt float. i opened up the channel til it did and was all happy. well while i was easing it into the safe holding the barrel, i felt something shift. i looked it over and figured out that with the one action screw, it would pivot around that point as the stocks channel would no longer support the barrel. much like the barrel band does in the stock design, its not just there for looks. i even asked boyd's last time i called and they said they dont build the stock to free float. its designed to hold the barrel. i noticed from posts some guys float, some dont. maybe its barrel droop?

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Axeman, I just have the single screw. Mine was tight enough when I got it that I had to lightly sand where the front of the receiver drops though the stock to be able to tilt it in.
I also have a Tactical Innovations adjustable v block.
Here's a close up of the underside fit.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

According to the email I received today from Boyds' Gunstock Customer Service.
"It will be available to order next week Tuesday."

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

We have 16 coming to Australia and got them to make them and they should ship to us very shortly i hope that they are here soon as we have some customers waiting for them.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Does anyone have a picture of the Boyd's Tacticool stock they could post one here? I've had a look round the internet including the Boyd's site but couldn't see one. Thanks.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Axeman - thanks. That looks very much like the stock on the Savage TR which some people have suggested is a Boyds stock. Have emailed them to see what they want to ship to the UK.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Got this info in a Email from Kurt over at Boyd's about the Tacticool stock.

"We will be making the tacticool Rimfire a standard catalog item in a few weeks.
1st offerings will be for the following actions

Ruger 10/22
Savage 93-e/MKII
Marlin 800 & 900 series rifle
CZ 452 heavy barrel
CZ 452 Mag heavy barrel
Remington 597
We are also developing a centerfire counter part to this stock. Will keep you posted."

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

I had an email from Boyds yesterday telling me that the CZ452 stocks should be available in a week or so, and for those of you in the UK, they will ship here for $45/ £30.

What's the general feeling on fit and finish of these stocks? From looking at various threads there seems to be a mix of opinion.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

The fit and finish are what you would expect from a laminate stock that costs $80 some will fit nicely some will need a little tlc it is also great practice if you have ever wanted to bed a stock you really don't feel bad if you f it up. I think working on it to fit my rifles perfectly is actually pretty satisfying. Anything that might need to be done requires only marginal skills with a file or sandpaper. Overall I am very happy with what I have got from them.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Thanks. I found some close up pictures of the Savage TR which has the same stock (?) and the fit looks pretty good. I've no problem doing a bit of fine tuning, especilly as there will be a trigger kit fitted which may alter it a little.

I've discovered that the CZ452 comes with different bolt patterns on the action depending where you buy it. There's an American spec and a European one, but strangley all the ones in the UK are American. Still, should make ordering a replacement stock from the USA easier.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

It's now listed on the Boyd's site. No separate model for the .17HMR though - whether that is a different stock which isn't ready yet, or the action for the .17HMR is the same size and you can just order the .22 version I'm not sure. Have asked Boyds....

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Is anyone here able to tell me whether the CZ452 .22 and .17HMR actions are the same size? Boyds don't have a .17HMR stock listed, and don't want to order one with the wrong inlet.

By 'heavy barrel channel' I'm assuming they mean the Varmint barrel, as opposted to the Sporter?

Any advice most welcome...

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

In case it's of any interest I've just spoken to Boyds, who are putting a photog guide up on thier website tomorrow to show the different inlets available for the CZ452, including the bolt pattern differences.

They never were instock. These are new items that in the case of the CZ452 line will not be available "instock" until mid September. They are in preorder right now. I have already ordered two from them Sunday morning.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

I was wondering... for this stock and the CZ452 (CZ453 American in my case) how much customer frabrication is necessary to get a proper fit? Also, how difficult is it to do a bedding job on something like this at home? I have zero experience in this area.

Re: Boyd's Tacticool Stock for CZ452 and others!

Ordered one yesterday to see what they're like, but never got the confirmation email through from Boyds. Has anyone here received a stock yet, or are all these orders being produced in September?

Thanks for the info. I still have time to pre-order!
