brake ideas for AAC-SD

have been thinking of getting a brake for my
aac-sd... I am wondering if i will have to do anything with
the factory threads??? Or is it like my can twist on and go??
Any suggestions would be good...

You don't need to do anything with the threads for most brakes unless they say something like "gunsmith installation required".

Look for a 5/8x24 RH thread and you just spin it on like any other flash hider.

I have a JP Brake sitting here waiting to go on my wife's rifle when it comes back from getting cut/threaded. Just know, that brakes won't win you any friends on the firing line. The most effective ones are obnoxiously loud and throw a pressure wave back and to the sides. Right where other shooters are usually laying.

Their brakes are threaded... Some have the QD for their suppressors and some don't.

While I like the design of their brakes, I can't see paying the price they charge if you're not using it for the QD purpose. If you're threading it off and on for your threaded suppressor, I think there are more practical solutions.

What thread pitch is your suppressor?

Make sure you get a break that has a cut out for the shoulder at the beginning of the threads. It's threaded for AAC suppressors. I got mine from rws on here.

I thought I read somewhere that brakes need to be "tuned" what exactly is that and how do you do it? I'm in the same boat I have an AAC-SD and I really liked the ones RWS is selling and the price is great.

Brakes on tactical rifles don't need to be "tuned".

However most need to be "timed" so that the ports point the correct direction when they are tight. This can be done with washers (crush, peel or shim), a pinch bolt design, or by shaving metal from the barrel or brake until it lines up at your required torque.

RWS actually refered me to Jacob kunsky. He is a great guy. His breaks are awesome. I timed two of them myself using 400 gr. sandpaper. Just have to take a little at a time and make sure your applying equal pressure. Took me about an hour on each

I put a primary weapons system's PRC break on my aac-sd. It comes with metal crush washers that go in between the brake and barrel. The brake threads right on. You add or remove washers untill the brake is just short of being aligned / timed. I then put the barrel in a vise with wood blocks to protect it from marring and tourqued it down with a wrench. It takes about 10 minutes.
The PRC helps with recoil for quicker follow up. Search them, others on the Hide have had good things to say about them and the price tag doesnt break the bank.
If you dont want to use the crush washers you can removing a little bit of material from the barrel or brake to time / align. You can carefully sand the back of the brake where it meets the barrel. Just be sure not to take to much off. If you arent comfortable doing that yourself, send it out.

Sanding is easy and looks professional. Just take a little at a time and take your time. The crush washers or peel washers look like a shade tree mechanic worked on your precision rifle.

Ok thats what I thought. I just got done filing and threading the bolt for a badger knob on mine so I think Im going to try and sand the brake down myself as well. Any recommendation on what grit sandpaper? I was thinking something really fine like 200 or 300. Thanks.

The .860 diameter is pretty close to a flush fit.
