buy them regardless of price compared to other brands

6 years ago I traded the family unfriendly Ford F150 in for a Honda Pilot in preparation for a family cross country vacation.

to me its All up to the purchaser I like dodge but have owned chevy and ford its all about getting the most i can for the dollar to me I am neither being paid by companies nor receiving any endorsements so how they feel matters little to me on what i buy . every one makes crap it happens to the best of companies you just have to weigh your options hell mercadies has a few cars out there that has had more than its share of problems . I wanted a fully hand tooled hard wood stock and after 2 years of looking and saving I could either do it my self or settle on some plywood substitute as I have zero skills in wood carving i decided op another option i went with a chassis Its nice way nicer than I dreamt it would be but its not that warm nor special I mean anyone could get on and it would look just like mine does . so to me brand loyalty means almost nothing .

I just was told by a buddy who loves Bushnell that Vortex is crap and has a "History of not holding zero" based on a scope he saw come into a shop he worked at maybe ten or so years ago.

I personally like to do research on anything I want to buy to see exactly where my money is going and am willing to give most brands a fighting chance. What is your opinions on the matter?

I like to personally test equipment and form my own opinions. The equipment that I want is the equipment that I have used and tested myself that has gained my personal stamp of approval. I don't want to use something just because someone else has the opinion that "it's good". However, I use those people's opinions as a reference when choosing which equipment to buy/test myself. Generally you find that the community "powerhouse" brands do what they are supposed to do, though not 100% of the time (in my experience).

I'm more volume oriented.... I like the Rem 700 platform as there are a million options for it.... stocks, triggers, hammers, etc...

Same reason why I talked a friend out of a mossberg OU made in Turkey.... Should it break... no parts to fix it....

Where a company is today is not a given based upon prior history... TASCO has had many rises and falls in quality...

Swarovski is good... but not as god as the price tag to some....

I buy almost exclusively from my "wish lists".

I base this on my Dad's old adage that "If a thing is worth doing today, it'll still be worth doing tomorrow". That helps me avoid impulse buying and many, many subsequent regrets.

Quite often the thing I buy will have been in the wish list limbo for months or even up to a year. I think this is good because:

Sometimes the thing got on the list because of a whim, but stayed there because it got reconsidered several, or many, times. This is a valid version of the "test of time".

All too often whims get superceded or eliminated as frivolous. They represent poor thinking in the first place. The wish list limbo exists in order to weed that stuff out.

My thinking attempts to put some sort of method into my madness; to serve some manner of unified goals. Often, interim experience demonstrates that the goals need to change.

My Wife is a partner to all my firearms acquisition decisions. I have to live with that lady; and few things can get us up on the edge faster than the subject of gun purchases. When she balks , my accumulated wisdom grows. Two and a half months from now, COVID-19 permitting; we shall be wed 50 years. Some part of this simply must be working.

She never questions my "why"; but she largely controls the 'when". The dialogue often goes, "I'm about to spend $X", and she may say "Wait". I wait. It works.

Marriages are most important when they are matured; and it is by such means that they become so.

I like the levered mechanical latch. Nice knowing the door is secured and sealed.

My current shit box SXS fridge when the wife or kids slam one door shut it usually blows the seal on the adjacent door open.

Getting them to slow down and just push the fridge closed has proved impossible. So they get whatever they want out of the fridge, walk away, 30 seconds later the door alarm signals and I have to get off my ass and close the door.

The current trend seems to be manufacturers pushing products that they think customers need, and convincing them they have to have it. I prefer my vehicles without all the distractions, and I like my appliances very basic.

Ok, so I did that.

I found a ton of threads with shit-talking, and a few about some kind of Snipershide edition scope and patent infringement.

It seems IOR was liked, then the US importer for IOR infringed on a patent, then they were junk afterwards.

Very few first hand reports of problems though.

Is that what you're talking about? The Snipershide edition patent violation?

If something sucks or I have issues I usually don’t complain I just drop them and almost never reconsider them again.

I'm not sure where your comment comes from. All evidence indicates they track fine. Or, is it sarcasm, ie an example, in keeping with the title of this thread.

I don't have any IOR scopes, and likely never will. The idea of shipping something that expensive across Eastern Europe is a little too sketchy for me.

I owned a fixed 10x for a few years. I bought it cheap, and sold it cheaper. I never had any problems though. It tracked fine. I used it for several classes and sold it when I switched to all mil/mil scopes. While the machining looked suspect and some designs were odd, it always worked.

But given the title of this thread and the Valdada subject popping up, I thought this was good spot to ask a few questions.

Cobra has very good customer service. I bought a used Davis .22 magnum derringer because I thought it was neat. Top barrel didn't fire. Davis is now Cobra. I ordered the parts that I thought I needed. That didn't work. I called. The guy at Cobra said "send it to me. If I can't fix it, I'll just send you a new one". I told him it was a Davis. He said to put a note in the box telling that I had spoken with him.

Two weeks later, I get it back with an invoice which reads "Pistol repair, $0". It has run flawlessly for several years. When I decided to step up to a .38 derringer, I bought a Cobra.

Yeah, I know the limitations and recommend that nobody carry a derringer. I think they're neat. There's a heck of a fireball with the .22 magnum too.
