I wanted to run Lapua or Alpha brass but I can’t seem to find it anywhere in 30-06. Hornady, starline and nosler are available are these good options?

Don’t mind shooting the cheaper brass in my .270 but wanted to shoot quality brass in my 30-06 as the plan is to stretch out to 1000 yards.

Have you checked" Van's".......they did have some Lapua on the shelf back this spring.....it may be gone now, haven't been there lately.

As to the other mentioned brands......Nosler has good clean flash holes and run very close to same weight,I've had some Hornady brass with clean flash holes from factory ,some ( different box)need deburred, weight on the box I check ran 3 grains diff. Don't know about Starline.

If you are ordering, then Ammoseek and Shootingbot are your friends and very worth the minute it takes to learn them.
You might get lucky and find a stranded box or two at a mom&pop retailer somewhere, but if you don't then those two websites are worth their trouble. YMMV

No luck with vans. Nosler is very pricey $100 for 50 is insane

Is ammoseek legit? I’ve always been a little skeptical of ordering from them

Yes and no. You don’t order from ammo seek. It’s just a web crawler that pulls info from other sites. You’ll get everything from big name vendors to some guy drop shipping out of stock ammo. Due diligence is in order.

I have no stake in ShootingBot or Ammoseek, but there is no vendor listed before they vet them and no goofy individuals or bad actors listed with either one. It is one of the better ways to know who a legit source really is. YMMV

All I’ve used is Winchester, I bought a couple of cases and then I lucked into some virgin LC match. It’ll take me forever to get to it though….lol

I got good results with Winchester and no brass prep unless you consider sizing and trimming prep.

Honestly, Winchester brand .30-06 brass has been great for me for my .30-06 Ackley Improved 40º. I also use Winchester .270 Win brass to form for my .25-06 Ackley Improved 40º, and it has held up great for quite a few loadings, and I load WAY up towards the tippy top of the pressure range.

Lapua is obviously the best, but if you can't find it, I'd say maybe Peterson, or ADG (if they make it?), then I'd say Nosler, or give a try to the Winchester.

I ended up going with starline for my .270, Hornady for the 6.5 and norma for my 30-06.

Figured I better start with cheaper brass since I’m new to reloading and I know I’ll mess up a few pieces here and there. Going to start with the 6.5 since it seems to be cheaper to learn on.
