It's not 1990 and never will be again. I paid my way thru college working two jobs in 1976 - then again, my monthly tuition and books were like $500 for the whole semester and I made that much in a month. This is *NOT* what we are talking about.....these young folks today have no chance. My rent was my half of $250 a month...new car? $2000. No cell phones, no internet and a calculator that could add, subtract, multiply, and divide was $90.
There is no fucking Way I can judge my nieces and nephews or their kids based on my Life experience. It's fucking gone, never to return. The world I stuffed half a million $ in the bank and paid my way thru college and worked 2/3 jobs at a time is gone - I paid $31K for a 786 sq. foot house with $3000 down. $186 a month house payment.
Apples and oranges. The youngers entering Life and the job market now are nothing like what we were in the late 1970's. They are screwed. This is not that and never will be again. The challenges and issues these young people face is unprecedented - there are no rules or norms for them. They will make their own Way. And it won;t be with norms and rules established 50+ years ago. Fuck me, when I was saving money in early 2000's I could buy a CD at 12% interest - no risk. No bullshit. What's the best these youngers can expect today? Hell a simple saving account at the bank netter 10% a year...money left in a simple savings account doubled every ten year. This today is not that.

So much truth in what you say here. I must be close to the same age and situation.
BUT, you bankrolled half a mil watching your spending, saving where you could, not buying your way to the vega. Not being a dick, but there is a lot more people under 50 that will never be able to control their spending. Every fucking weekend needs to be action packed, from breakfast to bedtime. From luxuries, entertainment, to making sure their kids are in top tier programs, replacing an 800 phone with a 1200 one, it never ends.
A fair share of this has to be regional though, and I am in a conservative part to the country.
Or goal was to be debt free by 45, we were close, and by debt free I mean from that day forward, it meant writing a check for any purchases forward.
I see youngers needing 80K Ranger Walleye boats for 8 outings per yr, 30K 4 seat Polaris Rangers for 3 summertime trips, tickets to every concert withing 400 miles, travel team baseball that cost 10K per summer, and thanks to GenZ coaches, their kid will suck just as bad at 18 as he does at 8yrs of age.
No doubt the world around them is changing faster than you and I can imagine, but lacking perspectives is prevalent, 4K house payments as an investment, when 30 yr olds need 450K houses, something is wrong, buy a starter and upgrade, living in booming cities, 8 buck faggoty coffee drinks, avocado toast, whatever the fuck that is, almond milk, on and on, the list to make them feel worthy is unreal. What happened to beers in the back yard or garage on a Saturday, build lifetime friendships? Flying somewhere to jack off a tranny dick, or some gay beer on a beach is way more important than facing life's challenges.
I don't want to get personal, but I met a mid 40's woman this past summer, her son played ball with my godson. Again friends, but everything out of her mouth is a path to solve this and that, and this course of action will put her there. From a hot tub, to a long distance relationship, every fucking thing will be solved with the next move. Fantasy Bullshit.
Every point you made is correct, no denying it. But until these kids realize worshipping movie stars, pro athletes, musicians, influencers( fucking mouthful), Instagram twats, etc.. is a waste of energy, can we help, or make it easier for them?
When we have kids, maybe older that want to live in Jackson WY, Santa Barbara CA, places in ID that only billionaires can afford, and somehow offer a service, school teacher, bartender, waitress, etc... and they actually think that anyone there cares about them, but they still need to be there, we are fucked. Let them tend to themselves.
