I followed GAP's posted break-in instructions. It took me 6 hours to shoot 39 rounds (our public range calls a cease fire every 10 mins). Here are the build specs:

- DPMS LR-308 upper, lower, and chrome BCG
- Bartlien 18.5" 11.25 twist barrel w/PWS FSC30 comp
- DD 12" lite rails ceracoated in FDE
- MI folding sight gas block ceracoated in FDE (front sight post was left black)
- Magpul FDE PRS stock
- Magpul FDE MAID grip
- Matech BUIS...need to get the knight's one
- TangoDown FDE bipod
- TD vert grip

The rifle does what it is supposed to. The FSC30 comp is awesome. This thing recoils like my 5.56 rifles. I can't wait to get my scope (Premier Heritage 3-15x50) mounted and zeroed. Here are some pics:

Results (The six holes at 6 o'clock are from my last two three-shot break in groups. The five holes in the center is my last group after sight adjustment. This was all from the bench/bipod using iron sights at 100yrds. Those are 1" square patches):

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

I know exactly what you mean. I just got a GAP bolt Gun and I did the same thing. Although our range doesn't shot down every 10 minutes it still took me three hours to shoot 30 rounds. I did take my time though. And, that is a really nice looking rifle too.

nice vid. That is the same way i broke in my 18" Compass Lake build, and it is an absolute tack driver. I am starting to believe the break in procedure is more for people with ALOT more time on there hands.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

Damn! I've had mine for 8+ years and haven't shot it twice yet. I gotta get a life... I should say that I broke mine in scoped, and the first groups were 3/4" so I'm real hopeful, if I ever get back to the line with it.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

This is the only rifle I own that I've "broken in." I figured it was worth the time to do it the GAP way and document it in case there are any issues regarding their 3/4 MOA guarantee. Judging by the groups above, I don't think there will be.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

I'm planning on mounting my PH on a 22 MOA badger riser rail in 1" high badger rings. I'm still trying to decide if I want the 22mil or the 14mil ST turrets. Any thoughts out there?

Haha love it. About how I broke my 18" OBR in on Saturday.

To the OP, good looking rifle, have fun!

Great looking rifle Dan! Soon I'll get a chance to shoot it. At least I got to fondle it before the range trip.

Nick, you and I work at the same place. The three of us should get together for some Laguna Seca fun one of these days.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

Got the scope mounted and zeroed. I think she's a keeper.

My last 5-shot group using M118LR at 100 yards:

Can anyone tell me the MIL elevation adjustments for M118LR for 200-1000 yards using a 100 yard zero (or a good place to find that info)? This whole scope thing is still new to me.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

Chrono it and then put your info into a ballistic calculator. There are many online.

I have an 18" barreled .308 and I think (not sure) that m118 ish ammo was coming out of it around 2500 feet per second.

Also 6 hours to shoot 39 rounds hahaha holy hell. I think I shot 100 in the first hour I had mine

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

If you don't have a chrono, you can use a online calculator like JBM. You shoot at 400 or 600 or whatever and see how much the drop is. Put all your info into JBM and play with the velocity until it matches your drop. Make sure you take the time to put in the correct environmental info.

Or....just do it "the old way"?

Get out and shoot it at 50yd increments out to 1000yds and write down your come-ups. For me it is a far better way than any on-line calculator or mass-produced ballistic card will ever be. Tailored to your rig/load....and you'll have a LOT more fun and learn more about your rifle than you will spending 6 hours doing barrel break in!

And NOT having a pop at you for break-in....I did exactly the same on my GAP .308 last December - when it was probably a whole lot colder here than it is in your neck of the woods?) for exactly the same reason - the rifle cost a load of money and if GAP see fit to advise a break-in routine, I figured I'd better do just that!

VERY nice looking rifle by the way. Congrats!

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

Thanks guys. I'm shooting this rifle in a competition next week at 600 yards. I think I need to come up about 3.5 mils. Does that sound about right? I get 5 spotters, so I just need to get on paper and adjust from there.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

If you can't chono it I would say that you would be much closer to 5.0 MIL's to 600 yards. That should be fine to get you on paper. Good looking rifle -- let us know how it shoots to 600.

Re: Broke in my GAP AR-10 today

+1..... to be on at 3.5 mills, you'd need to be pushing that 175 around 2950. I would say with your 18.5 barrel, you'll need 5.25 mils and 1.5 mills for 10 mph wind. Good luck at your match.

I would like to know this as well.

I would also like to know what it chronos at for comparison to my 18".

Rocking the 600 yard line at Camp Pendleton:

4.8 MILs did the trick. The Premier is an awesome scope, although I had mounted it too close to my eye for proper eye relief. That is fixed now.

I've got North of $3K into this one all told.
